Actually it looks like a flat back. The curved reflection is the lid of the case.

Probably a D-35, I think.

First of all one of us, maybe I'll do it, should send the seller a ? and ask if its a Typo. Second of All, Steffan we always regret the one we let go especially if it's a Guild or a Martin

yeah, it's just an old D-35, about '73, it does look to be in nice shape. I believe the only difference between the D-35 and the D-25 at this point was the 35 had a spruce top and the 25 had a 'hog top.

Certainly looks like my D35. Interesting but the tuners are different than my 1975 version.

Now I'm wondering if the tuners on mine are original :?: :?:

Not an issue if they are not, they work perfect, just a bit curious. :? :?:

Early D-35s had the 3-on-a-plate tuners also found on D-25s from that era (my '72 D-35 and '74 D-25 have 'em). But Guild certainly used the style of tuners seen on your D-35 in the mid-70s... I have that style on my '74 G-37, and have seen them on D-40s and other Guild dreads from that era. Hans could tell you for sure, but wouldn't be surprised if yours are original, or a factory upgrade.

After consulting our 'bible' and the Blue Book, I couldn't find any mention of a "G35" anywhere. So I sent a message to the seller on the Bay asking if he might have a G37 or a D35.

As soon as I hear from him....

I'm 99.99% positive that's a D-35... it has a flat (one brace is visible thru the soundhole) mahogany back and spruce top. I don't think the tuners are original... at that time it should be open 3-on-a-plate tuners. Now watch me be wrong...

'73 was about the time the transition from flat-back to arched back D-25 began. I'm pretty sure that there are '73 D-25s with flat backs (I think I have also seen '73s with arched backs)... but a flat back D-25 would have had a mahogany top (and that one has a spruce top). The only exception I can recall seeing in the last couple years was a mislabeled D-35 (said D-25 on the label, but D-35 on the neckblock).

My understanding is that the only spruce-topped D-25s from that era would have arched backs... beginning in about '73 or '74. I don't think I have ever seen a D-25 from that era with a natural spruce top (and arched back). Tops of most D-25s were stained, with "mahogany" (D-25M) and "cherry" stain (D-25CH or C?) the most common (at least, going by what I see on eBay).

So I think it is a D-35.

First thanks for the info on my D35.

Not a single bid at $600 :?: :?: :? My D35 is in a lot rougher shape. Lots of dings, scratches, couple of small stable cracks around the pickguard and soundhole. Finish is nearly worn thru where my right arm rests on the guitar. But she's a fantastic sounding Spruce/Mahogany dread. In my mind certainly worth upwards of $600, even in the shape she's in. Even the guide books have a higher range. If that guitar gets relisted somebody should jump on it for that price.

I did get an e-mail from the seller and he promised to take a closer look at the D or G designation. From his 'tone' and since the guitar didn't sell, he might relist and come down a little, for the opening bid at least. :?:

Keep an eye on it,
Joe
