I've got a lifetime supply of rectifiers and power tubes. Unlike most gigging folks at the time, who were using 6L6GC and EL34, most of my amps use 6V6GT tubes, and I needed to make sure I had a supply. The military had just released a bunch of 6L6 tubes, so they were cheaper than 6V6 at retail. 7591 and 7199 tubes were also extinct, so there were a lot of Ampeg people hoarding too. 7868 is still extinct.I was one of the horders and not just for 6V6s, but also 12AX7s, 12AT7s, 6L6s and GZ34s. And the thing is that in over 30 years I've only had two tubes actually die - an RCA 5Y3 and an RCA 6V6 that were in two different Vibro Champs. I have had a couple of 12AT7s go microphonic, though. So, my track record has been pretty good and the hording was probably unnecessary.
