I totally understand, jfilm.I would not sell is my '64 D-40
Thanks- it was a real mess (see photo 1), otherwise would never have done that to a Hoboken Guild. So it was a good opportunity to see what the wood looks like without messing with the vintage finish, since someone had already destroyed it. Was really impressed with how nice the mahogany is.Nice restoration jfilm. So much better to show off that wonderful mahogany grain than to have it hidden.
I've got a few cleats in there already, though it could probably use a couple more down toward the end. The crack was substantial and I had to put splints in the gaps using mahogany veneer. It's holding pretty well, but opened slightly in the winter. It's been about two years since I did all this- not a pro job but that's ok, since this is one I'll never sell!I totally understand, jfilm.
It looks like that back crack might need to be cleated, buddy. Although if it already is, then don't sweat it. The reappearing crack is because of lacquer settling in and getting hard. I have a few of those on my 2018 Jacobs restoration classical.
Totally get it; and sentiment is a huge part of the equation here.I wouldn’t part with my F-50 for $5k. Yes I could buy another and pocket some change but my dad owned that guitar since around the time I was born.
I not sure I could live with myself if I ever sold it. Think about it, my dad gives me a guitar because it was my favorite acoustic ever and the I ended up selling it, sure makes me look like an ingrate lolTotally get it; and sentiment is a huge part of the equation here.
Well, of course it all depends on your circumstances, but yeah. Who wants to look like an ingrate!?!?I not sure I could live with myself if I ever sold it. Even the custom set? Hmmm…If someone wants to paypal me 5K, I will give you the F30R and throw in the BR as well. And all the strings...
I have an old Jackson Performer P7....incredible guitar. For me there are two answers:
I would not take $5k for a guitar that’s worth close to or more than $5k already.
In the spirit of the question, there’s probably only a couple that I wouldn’t part with. One’s an import Jackson that’s worth maybe $800 and one’s my 2000 Starfire.
Well, that's a bit of a surprise. Is that true, Tom? No sentiment with any of them? Even the blue Breedlove? Just ever-curious.I'm just starting this thread, so I've not read it yet. But just so you know, if anyone wants to offer me $5K for any of my guitars, I'm all ears. Let the offers commence!!
Well, I have sentimental attachment to all of them, just not $5K worth. Let the offers roll in. I'm getting ready to downsize a bit in Spring anyway.Well, that's a bit of a surprise. Is that true, Tom? No sentiment with any of them? Even the blue Breedlove? Just ever-curious.
