When I was a teenager, way back in the day, I remember my dad having this album.

I enjoyed it immensely and was particularly entranced by the track titled "Ciocarlia".

I've searched extensively for its availability to download or, (unlikely) a C.D. version, without success.

Anybody got any suggestions to offer please ?

Gary.

Why, do you want me to buy a "backup copy" for your vinyl record? I know you claim you don't have it, but I'm sure it's around there somewhere...

Hi Coastie,

Im confused  Is it the vinyl version you want, or do you have the vinyl and want a CdD copy. ? The Lp looks like the kind of thing you find in the bins of second hand stores for 50 cents: Sadly I no longer frequent these environs so can't say that I've spotted it recently. I'll keep my eye out for it though... You could also contact Real Groovy in Auckland and post a WTB, also on Audioenz website.

If it's a CD copy you are after and you have the vinyl, then I can copy it here for you.

Cheers, Ian

Thanks Ian.

No, I don't have the vinyl copy. I was hoping that somewhere, I might be able to download the album. Or, it might now be available on C.D.

Just here to express moral support. I can think of a few long-lost vinyls I don't expect to ever see again even on CD.
Just do a Google every couple of months is the best advice I can think of. Ya never know when one might pop up on some seller's collectibles site.

Better yet, do a Google search and save it, specifying email notification when something meeting the criteria shows up and you will be emailed the day it is listed, and notified when the email notification needs to be renewed. I've found a number of O/P things that way.

I wonder if they have permission from the copyright holder...

OOPS, just saw that they claim to adhere to copyright law.

To legally obtain this CD, you must also purchase the vinyl record, or already own it.

which I think leaves coastie still searching...

But wait - there's more.

Purchase Vinyl & CD $69.95
so maybe it would serve after all, provided coastie wants it badly enough to pay that price (in USD).

I clicked on the "Buy CD" link just to see what it says, and you have to provide proof that you own the LP. Wonder if a photo and Gary's story about his dad owning the album would suffice. 8)

Depends upon the provider's sense of ethics. If they have good lawyers and a statement from the customer that the customer owns the vinyl then when the Copyright Police come after them they can point to the statement and send them after the customer. If however, they want to actively protect copyrights as well as their customers then they would ask for reasonable and verifiable proof before making the copy. In that case the Copyright Police would just inspect the proof and decide that it is time to move along because there is nothing (i.e. no copyright violation) to see here.

The wild card in this business model is that the Copyright Police have, upon several occasions, harassed individuals for things that media owners thought should be prohibited activities but in reality were not found to be illegal when the courts finally ruled. While making a copy of something you already own is generally protected as Fair Use there is always the chance that some overzealous entity would decide that providing a service that facilitates such Fair Use is a violation. So there is always the chance that this business model will involve lawsuits that are effectively nothing more than harassment of the business.

Sumthin' funny goin' on there. I think they're making that condition because it's illegal for them to copy (for resale) a vinyl they have (the ol' copyright laws), but not for them to copy something you own, for you. Makes me wonder if they actually have the vinyl. Note the "3-5 week delivery". Betcha if you dug deeper they'd say "Send us the vinyl and we'll copy it for you".
They're in the duplicating business, not the CD retailing business.
But hey, on the internet, nobody knows you're actually a dog.
Ahhh...I see Frono expanded on the copy right issues just as I was about to post.

My thoughts exactly !

It seems totally implausible to me that a duplicating business would have such an abstruse piece of vinyl hanging 'round the office !!
