How are the Fishman electronics in the late 90s Guilds holding up? Has anyone had to repair or replace this stuff? I really hate the idea of guitars with holes cut in the side for this stuff but if the guitar is good otherwise what can you do?

My F-47RCE has an LR Baggs iBeam onboard pickup in place of the Fishman. For me it's no big deal as I don't play out and rarely use an amp at home, but I guess I could take it out and call it a sound port.

I guess I'll have to plug Blondie in this weekend and get back to you. My main worry was having a battery corrode inside. Truthfully I don't think I've plugged her in more than 4 times! I just liked knowing all that power was there if I ever wanted to use it. Oh waitaminnit now I'm confusing her with my car...
Shoot now that I think about it Richie's got a pickup too but it's a Dtar I don't think it even takes a battery. Dang if I play both of 'em then Hally'll get jealous...now I know why the prophet said "Sure you can have as many wives as you want but you're crazy if you want more than one"

My problem with Fishman is that I can't get any replacement parts in my area and Fishman doesn't sell direct. Also, there are a number of "proprietory" parts that shouldn't be proprietory; such as the nut on the end pin. Actually, I can't get anything where I live. I have to travel a couple of hours to look for guitars and to have repair work done.

Peace

I wouldn't let the presence of a Fishman deter me from buying a guitar I love.
I've owned a few. I currently own 5 Fishman pick-ups in guitars.

(2 F65ce's, 1 Vietnamese Classical, 1 Vietnamese jumbo, 1 Vietnamese
dreadnought cutaway).

I don't like the sound of acoustic pick-ups in general. But the pick-ups
have never given me any problem. And once in a while, it's fun to plug
them in.

I installed a K&K Pure Western MIDI (no hole necessary) on my D60.

I have an LR Baggs in a Vietnamese dreadnought I own.

I'd say the K&K & LR Baggs sound 5% better than the Fishman.
But neither pick-up equals the unplugged sound. And in fact,
none of these pick-ups are an improvement on a DiMarzio
sound-hole pick-up.

No problems with my B-4E. Endpin jack is a little "loose" but I call that mechanical and not electrical. I thought I had a dropout problem for a while but it turns out the cord was the culprit.

By-the-way, the Fishman Blender (F65ce's) is a pretty good sounding pick-up if you set it to >75% microphone.
It feeds back a little more that way. But it's an older pick-up and it still sounds like it's being mic'd.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I suspected repair parts might be a problem.

Hello Paddlefoot,

In case you run into trouble with your Fishman electronics, keep in mind that I keep a lot of that stuff in stock for future repairs. I'm talking Fishman pre-amps especially made for the use on Guild guitars. If Fishman cannot help you out, just e-mail me.

Sincerely,

Hans Moust

Thank you Hans. It's good to know someone out there has the right stuff.
