Hello folks, MY brother recommended this website to me, as I just bought my first Guild a beautiful 1963 Cordoba X 50. Actually I just bought it on ebay but have not received it yet, so I am actually an owner, not a possessor so to speak but will be in a few days.

Anyone have any tips for me or anything I should know about the X 50?

Thanks

Rick

Rick,

Welcome to THE best Guild website on this earth! Your brother Mike is one of the top guys also for advice on Guilds along with Hans Moust who is THE Guild Expert I might add! In regards to the X-50 you have basically what was Guilds version of the Gibson ES-150 of the very early 1950's. The X-50 is a great guitar that is really undervalued. I have quite a few 1950's Guild archtops and as I am sure that Mike would agree the only real issue with old Guilds is the binding separation that almost always occurs with the old Guild jazz guitars. No big deal as unless it is really severe I usually just leave it as it doesn't usually bug me that much. Is your X-50 purely acoustic or is there a pickup on it Rick? Please post pictures and say 'Hi' to Mike for me! jim hahn at Tinker AFB in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

I'm anxious to see pictures. I've been very impressed with the Guild that I purchased recently. I see how this could become addicting.

I think you bought the X-50 from our good pal Dave from Minnesota. He's good people and you won't be disappointed.

I used to own your brother's X-50 and it was one of my all-time favorite guitars. I almost never plugged it in. It has such a beautiful sound unplugged.

Welcome to the forum and congratulations!!!!

I'm thinking you scored the X-50 that fellow LTGer drc was selling, but I'll let him chime in if he wants to. If so, that is a beauty!

X-50's are a blast, especially because they also sound great unplugged. Plugged in, single note solo lines sound very "jazzy" - all in all, a cool little guitar!

Hey Rick - I'm glad you made it here. Now comes the stress of shipping it. Nothing like shipping a 1963 vintage instrument in the dead of winter.. dbl box, insulate, ship fast and hope for the best!

Welcome to LTG. I was going to suggest finding a post with a video of a great sounding X50 which was made by LTGer mbrindall & to get some advice from him, but then I guess he's your brother so you can just go direct! :D

Enjoy your new baby when it gets there!

Hi Rick,

Welcome to LTG!

I've bought 2 wonderful Guild guitars from Mike that is really a very nice person and we often email each other, I even think that we became some kind of 'internet-through" friends!
I hope you'll enjoy the X50, I must admit that I hesitated to buy it when I saw it on sale on this forum, I'm glad that you've got it! :D

Seems like most people here Know and have dealt with my brother Mike. He's not just my brother, he's actually my twin brother. 3 minutes older than me. And 20 or so guilds ahead of me:)

Hi Ricky,
Welcome to the forum! I see you have already been introduced to some of my friends. All very nice people here and are as an encouraging a group as you will find. And you can also see how some of our guitars get around. If you check out 'my guild guitars' page on facebook you will find a video or two of me playing a '58 X50. Or I can just email one to you. Also feel free to post pix of your X50 there as well. To post here you will have to use a photo hosting site like photobucket, but you probably already have used it. There is also a space here for you to post your music which I am sure many would want to hear. Now you will also have to get rid of those cheapo Taylor and Martin acoustics and get a nice Guild D55 or other beautiful Guild acoustic. Just pokin' some fun at you Ricky. Enjoy the forum and stay involved. Now you will also have to get Hans' book. The Guild bible. Talk soon.
