some images of a build I've got going on the same time as my guitar restoration. I'm scrapping an old organ amp to create a 5E3 Fender Deluxe. I'll post some more pics as I go.

thanks, Ernest

I should be putting the chassis together this weekend hopefully if I can find a way to make my own turret board.

No money for a kit like this, but a fun vid to watch:

I'll be scavenging all the REAL old stuff as I can find it, paper and wax capacitors, etc.. the only major expense will be the scrap organ amp and a nice speaker. probably from Weber but I'm going to see what I can find used.

here are some pics of a friend of mines builds, He'll be helping with the electronics. :D

Check out the "so you want to build your own amp" thread for some turret board hints. Keep in mind that old caps tend to leak DC, so if you run into issues, I would look there first. I would keep the iron and use new caps myself. If you really like that look of the wax caps, gut them and put a mallory inside.

That's just me.

thanks, I read that thread and looks like Mcmaster carr is where to get the board. I plan on making a few amps. I've already got the eyelets and a crimper.

An interesting project Ernest and congratulations on "having a go".

Please keep us up-dated on your progress. Could I just ask, what board material do you intend sourcing from McMaster Carr ?

Gary.

yeah, about that. i found a 5e3 pre made turret board for undr $20 shipped. I may be wishing I had extra when I go to build my second project but on this part I'm saving some time. I was hoping to find a readily available source of the material that I could diy then found out you have to order the stuff online anyways so might as well come to me ready to hook up.

So, you may some time in the future order some material from Mc C ?

I've been trying to source material for boards here, without any success. I've been buying the material from Hoffman Amps., which is quite expensive.

If you'd be willing to post to me please, I'd be glad to share a sheet of material with you.

Here it is here ( G10 F/4 ) ................ http://www.mcmaster.com/#garolite/=g0ve75

Cheers,

Gary.

One of the first things I've learned about chassis making is that aluminum street signs as material can not handle a 90 degree bend.

and a question, how do I figure what ohm speaker to buy? if you look on the front of the chassis that my parts came from, it reads (OUTPUT to second speaker 15 ohm)

what does this mean if I were to use this OT in a 5e3 schematic? what would the ohm of the regular speaker be? how do you find out?

Depending on what you want to do, you would use either (1) 16 ohm speaker or (2) 8 ohm speakers connected in series. The OT is looking for a 16 ohm load, but it's up to you how you want to get there.

how can you tell the OT is looking for a 16 ohm speaker? Is it just because the label on the old chassis? or is this just standard?

thanks

not sure what you mean by scan the schematic. I don't have a schematic for this old thing unless you are wanting me to draw it out and it's too late for that. I've already gutted this thing.

does this help

Any idea what organ it was from? Sorry, I mistook the chassis drawing for a schematic. I have been checking LTG on the phone during the day and haven't used the laptop in a while.

It was from a Ampro Movie Projector.

No model# though.

a google search on ampro projector images turns up the specs for a model Stylist 16.
http://www.film-center.com/ampro.html

not the same tubes listed but all the speakers listed are 8 ohm.

You are probably safe with an 8 ohm speaker then. I thought it was from an organ?
Bell and Howell used a lot of 16 ohm Jensens, but usually companies stuck with whatever they were able to get in bulk.
