Hi everyone—I'm a newbie to the forum but have a question about my Guild. Model Number is F4 HK Serial number AF042555. I've looked online and find the F4 CE in this range, (1997) but wonder why mine is an HK and if anyone has heard of this. Is this something different? Just asking because everyone who has ever heard the sound from this thin body are instant converts and they all want to record with it, play it on stage, and I'm telling them they got to get their own.

Go Guild!

Welcome to LTG, nina.

The suffix often refers to the finish. Is it shiny? What color?

Thanks and hello everyone. I think dapmdave and Dr. Spivey are on to something. It is possible the HK is HR and then that would mean Hand Rubbed finish. It is a natural spruce finish. Now my husband says I should refinish the top (it has pick scratches and a little wear near the pick guard. I'm thinking I should leave it alone.

Hi Nina and welcome to the Guild forum. You have a wonderful guitar and I agree with the others who say not to refinish it. The reason being is you WILL change the tone of the guitar, and probably not for the better. As I mentioned in another thread, many guitar makers will actually measure the thickness of the finish to make sure it’s within specifications…not too thick and not too thin. Ether will change the voice of the instrument.

Here are a few specs on your guitar if you’re interested.
Rounded cutaway
Natural satin finish
16" lower bout
3" body depth
25-5/8" scale
1-5/8" nut width
Spruce top with oval sound hole
Mahogany sides and arched back
14 fret mahogany neck
20 fret rosewood fingerboard with dot inlays
Rosewood bridge
Tortoise plastic pickguard
Black body binding
w-b-w top purfling
Chrome Grover Rotomatic tuners

It’s no wonder it sounds so wonderful! :D During that time the F4 also came with the option of a Fishman pickup, but again that was an option.
Oh and by the way, we all would love to see a photo of your guitar. So when you get a chance please post a pic of your F4-CE.

There she is, you can see close up the scratches near the pick guard and even above. I just got a humidifier today since we live in Denver and Winter is dry, but maybe I can condition the finish.

Yeah—management material here. LOL

Glad to be of help. Looking at the photos it looks like it has a case of pick rash from someone going Richie Haven on it. If you’re going to try to “condition the finish”, use caution. Being a satin finish, it may do more harm then good.
