I've never heard of a D25 BR -- but I'm not especially knowledgable about these. Has anyone else? Are these any different from any other D25? The seller says it has a mahogany top -- but there's no "M" in the model name. Is it indeed mahogany? Thanks in advance for any help figuring out what this is.

EDIT: Just found my own answer, from our own Hans Moust, on a previous post: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=2620&view=previous

Thank you, Hans, I knew this was the place to fine the answer.

Hello dogberry,

The 'BR' suffix in D-25 BR stands for Brown. It was used for a short while during the early '70s when the D-25 was also available in Cherry Red, in which case the model designation was D-25 Ch.
At that time the D-25 was still an all-mahogany guitar.
The D-25M model designation was introduced when the top wood was changed to spruce.
The M-suffix indicated a Mahogany-shaded top. I guess it must have sound logical at the time!

There's a D-25 BR pictured on page 125 of 'The Guild Guitar Book'.

Sincerely,

Hello Alex,

Whether or not a D-25 has a mahogany top depends on the period that it was made in, not so much the finish that was applied to it. I've never seen an early mahogany-topped D-25 with a sunburst finish so I would think that the majority of Westerly-made D-25s with a sunburst finish would have a Spruce top.
After the Westerly plant was closed, the 'reissue' of the D-25 did get a mahogany top again and those were available in Sunburst as well.

Sincerely,
