I ordered a pin via eBay two weeks ago.

I'm in Boston; the seller is in Florida.

The tracking shows it went from Florida, to Hawaii, to Boston. (Yes, Hawaii!)

It arrived today.

wileypickett,
Perhaps if you plot the Great Circle Route, you'll find that it was indeed a shorter distance from Florida to Boston, via Hawaii.
Ya think?

Well, it crossed the border, and has cleared customs somewhere here in Toronto.
It is still scheduled to be delivered to me on April 14th, so I assume the next eight days are to properly age the package so it achieves the peak of freshness before I receive it.

Well, now the package is in Erlanger KY.
Apparently, the ox cart driver pulled off the road to take a leak, and the oxen wandered away. By the time they caught them they were in Erlinger. I suppose I'm lucky the cart wasn't being pulled by sled dogs or they'd probably be in Alaska by now.
If I sound upset, it's only because I had hoped to wear the new helmet and mask in games before I retire from hockey.
Now I'm beginning to wonder if that will happen.

Your oxen story is a hoot! I like that!

Sorry your purchase is taking so long to arrive. (Danged oxen.) Maybe they'll surprise you and it will be a few days sooner. Maybe.

My only experience using eBay for international shipping was a disaster. It was some mint condition Gibson nickel covered pickups, they inspected them, repacked them horribly and they were heavily damaged during shipping.

Took weeks to straighten out and, of course, the buyer was not happy.

My purchase is a no longer made polycarbonate hockey helmet with what appears to be a custom made metal goalie mask attached. It is supposed to protect one's head and face from pucks, and errant sticks, so I presume it would take a lot of deliberate mis-handling by the various people along the way to damage it.
But you never know who will rise to the occasion and cause a problem.
Time will tell.

Story nearly finished.
The helmet arrived about an hour ago, over a week early according to the original estimate.
Turns out I was correct. The shipper was FedOx, and there were turds all over the driveway.
Item was undamaged and in very good shape. The end of the tale will be tomorrow night when I wear it in a game. I'll letcha know how it goes.
I thank you all for putting up with this non-guitar saga.

AcornHouse.
The helmet was made by the Koho company, which years ago originated and was based in Finland.
The steel mask is goaltender's grade because the metal is a thicker gauge than what was and still is used for forward's and defensemens' face masks. This particular one, I believe was a custom one-off as I have been unable to track down any other examples of this particular shape.
The two oval shape eye holes give this mask its style name: Cat's eye.
I did make a few alterations such as swapping out the chin-piece for one I took from an old mask and changing the straps that hold the mask secure, but I'll spare you the details.
I wore it last night in a game, and was very pleased with it.
And as promised, to prove that this story really happened, two photos.

Why do I look at the chin strap and recall all the threads where the seller is chastised because the guitar could use more cleaning and less mojo?

:)

Congrats on the early delivery!

Water hose sprayer set on jet will get turd off your shoes.

Did you win your game?

frono,
The chin piece you see here is not the one that came with the helmet, but is a larger and more heavily padded one that I took from another mask I used for many years, and attached to the new one.
The vinyl coating on the chin piece was originally bright white, but being about 27 years old, has yellowed with age.
To repeat, I am a function over form person, so the look of the chin piece is immaterial as long as it protects me when I take a puck to the face.
The chin cup that came with this helmet was very slightly soiled, but otherwise the helmet and cage were almost pristine.
A great find, at a reasonable price, and works like a champ.
I couldn't be happier.
