I see lots on here about the DV-52, and not so much about the upscale cousin DV-62. Does anyone know how many of the latter were produced, roughly? Aside from bling/cosmetic features, has anyone verified that it actually used different woods than the DV-52?

Any info is appreciated.

I'm only going on memory, for what it's worth  but I believe the original DV-52's were satin finish and the -62's were basically a -52 with a nitro finish. When the DV-52's were re-released later ('96 I believe) they were nitro finishes with the addition of an abalone soundhole rosette, and a "high-gloss version. I believe the woods and bracing were the same on all the different renditions. My '98 is a DV-52ABHG (Antique 'Burst High Gloss)

I concur....same guitar. Looks like about 146 DV62's built in '94 and '95....most of which were built in '94.

Hmm...ok thanks. The only thing I can't quite square with that is the resale value seems to be a good $400 more than the DV-52, at least according to the blue book or some other vintage guitar book. But i guess that has more to do with the scarcity than the quality?

Mind if I ask how much he's asking? My Bluebook shows a value, in excellent condition of $1100-$1250, but personally I feel like an immaculate DV62 might be worth a tad more.

Well, the purchase has already been made, for $800. It's a '94, and is in decent condition. It doesn't have a lot of overall wear, but it does have a few noticeable scars, like a spot where the binding came off, the heal cap came off, and one large scratch in the middle of the top. Basically it seems like it was played a little, stored a lot, but not really taken care of. He didn't know what happened to the heel cap, for example.

I'd post pictures but it's in the shop getting said issues addressed. I don't mind the flaws because i'm looking for a player and don't want to fret about the cosmetic stuff. It sounds incredible and is a real looker.
