Oh wow! A Pontiac GTO-El Camino. That's really cool. I wonder what the back looks like? (y)
I think standard El Camino but not sure - I know the El Camino version is doable because the Chevelle and Tempest chassis are the same, not sure about the GTO Silverado, but I bet Dave Kindig could do it if I had the money ...

Not sure if they actually made them from the factory but if they did they would have been sold in Australia. Down there they call em Utes (short for utility) and there was a lot of "mixing of the GM American brands" in the mid to late 60's for production cars in Australia.

Before the shoulder went south I used to build and restore pre 70 cars including a lot of 20's-50's models. It was crazy that they were making unibody utes all the way back to the 30's and prior in Australia. Here in the states it was cab and bed construction but the unibody utes from the 30's made some of the coolest custom builds.

Ford was making them as early as 32-33 iirc. Love me some 37-38 Hudson Terraplane though. By far the best grille on any 30's production car. Had a 49 Hudson Commodore Coupe with the twin h dual carb flat 6 and it would fly! Car felt like you were floating on a cloud of air. Hudson was way ahead of it's time back in the day. The 48 Hudson was the first car that had a monobody construction where the frame rails went through the body instead of under it allowing you to be closer to the road. Cool cars.

Just saw my first in person. And I think it will take a very…very long time for me to get used to, if ever! I think it looks like it's based on the drawing of a 5 yr old. 🤣🤣

(Taken w/ my phone just an hr ago!)

Drawn by a 5 year old....... built by a 5 year old........ I wonder if anyone will make a shell or camper for it???? :)

Man I miss the days of when car models actually looked unique to one another even when made by the same manufacturer. 👍

Don't forget when Oldsmobile and Pontiac made their versions of the Corvette as concepts in 1954.

That Ford is a '59, not a '57. Still a very fun car. Not a huge fan of Continental Kits when they do the bumper like that. Nice color though. I'll throw in a '57 Ford so as to compare with the GM brands.

I'm very impressed when anyone can look at a car (or a guitar) and know what it is and what year it was made. That ability escapes me completely. As I said in another thread, in both instances I have to be close enough to read what's written on it. The '59 Ford I posted came from a Google search for "1957 Ford convertible photo", since being from a pretty much Ford loyal family I wanted Ford to be included. It would seem that the ability to date an auto also escapes Google.

Thank you for the info, and for posting the '57. It's beautiful!

P.S. The rear bumper on that '59 looks very inviting. A couple of throw pillows and it could be quite comfy.
