I spent a little time on the 'burst 12-string this AM. Lowered the action, and installed the Baggs M1 Active. It sounds very nice indeed through my little Crate practice amp. Connection is through a Vintage Jack I got from Elderly. The advantage is that you don't have to drill the endpin hole. On the downside, it costs $80 and uses a 1/8 jack, so you either make your own cable or find one the right size. Works very well, though, and it's nice not to be forced to modify the instrument.

I recently had an M1 Active installed in my D55...went with the regular jack and sliced my guitar strap to fit over it...what an amazing sound! The more you play it plugged in the more you'll love it. Have fun! joan
