Couldn't be a whole lot weirder than this creature, the hydrothermal worm, kinda reminds me of "Alien":

^ok, so one of those hydrothermal worms is taken back to england
then scientists decide to make it larger to eat pigeons and starlings and all those other annoying birds in england. then it gets too big and eats people...and starts self replicating. then theres like 5 million of them all across the earth eating people, until a ragtag group of 5 or 6 has-been actors and a scientist decide to shoot them and end up saving the human race.

ok, wheres my check for the script for the next SyFy B-movie of the month?

It's in the mail... really! An alternate plot may not be so far-fetched (emphasis added).
"Scientists with the British Antarctic Survey are seeking to drill through the continent's thick covering of ice to a giant, hidden lake, cut off since before modern humans first evolved, which may house life forms invisible to human eyes."
and to which we have NO immunity.

Yea, like a cross between Outbreak and Tremors only with Zombies, an few evil Aliens and a cranky old man played by Clint Eastwood.

The last time I stepped into a movie theater 'Erin Brockovich' had just been released.

I didn't know she served any jail time.
