Try this then. Instead of focusing on an event that was a touchstone for your generation, why not see what other touchstones are for folks of different ages? New perspective and the discussion does not make the assumption that what was significant to one person had to be similarly significant to everyone who lived through it.

I was at work just starting a new married life. Also at work on 9/11. Both crazy, sad, heartbreaking events.

On my way to English class as a college junior. While in the class one of the students looked out the window and said "They just lowered the flag to half-mast". Class was dismissed, and that building was never that quiet before, and probably never since!

It brings tears to my eyes today just thinking about it. A whole generation lost its innocence that day.
