I have an an m75 with the franz reissues. I'm wondering if a P90 pickup cover would fit over the franz pickup. I'm thinking probably not: the the walls of the most P-90 covers are too thin.

I was thinking of an M775 with black covers, like so (photoshopped).

You can buy undrilled p90 covers in nickel, with very thin walls. But i'd have to paint the nickel, and the paint would have to durable. Maybe have them powder coated after drilling. Or cover the existing pickup cover with automotive stretch vinyl

Anyone have an experience with this?

I was thinking about contacting them myself, since the only black Franz covers they offer online are dogears. The more, the better.
I wasn't able to get their email contact form to work. Plan on calling them today. Meanwhile I just ordered two "raw," undrilled nickel silver P90 covers from Philadelphia luthier supply. I feel like these could fit as covers and could be painted, powder coated, vinyl covered or "hot blued" to get a convincing black color.

Guild just told me "At this time, we do not sell Franz P90 Covers individually; only with the purchase of a Pickup."

Me "Here, Guild, take my money!" Guild: "We do not accept such trivial sums, sir."

Oh well, I have the raw, undrilled nickel silver pickup covers on order

Well...this may sound a little extreme but...I bought a black and white SF1 Jet when they first came out and took the black covers off the Franz pups and used them on other guitars. I installed white covers on the Black SF1 Jet and removed the Franz from the white SF1 Jet and installed a set of white DeA Model 2k pus I had in my parts bin.
My preference was for a Gold SF1 Jet but never purchased it because of white covers.

So a bit extreme...I guess. I also could not stand the pickup selector knob. Difficult to turn and identify the selector position so I put a black "chicken head" knob the white SF1 Jet and a white "chicken head" knob on the black SF1 Jet.

Hey MixO'Lydian.

I'm a little late getting to this thread. There are a lot of places that sell undrilled P90 covers if you use da Googles-- black p90 covers undrilled. However, if I'm not mistaken, Franz PU covers are 80mm (L) while standard P90 covers are 85mm (L).

Did you ever find a solution? You may also want to message LTG member WalterBroes. IIRC, he has mentioned he's done this before, but I don't know his source for covers.

I had knee replacement surgery which has knocked me out of action for a while

yes the Franz pickup covers are shorter than P90 covers. There's also the thickness--the franz covers are thinner than standard P90 covers. I suppose you could buy undrilled black p90 covers, cut them to make them shorter, glue them back together, and then carefully file away the inner wall till it was the right thickness. That's a couple bridges too far I think. When I'm back on my feet I'm going to try wrapping the pickup covers in that automotive vinyl wrap, see if that works

Try this place. This guy used to make them as a hobby. He currently only has ivory, but he used to make them in black.

Very interesting, thank you jp.

Perhaps we could talk him into manufacturing another batch of black covers for us LTGers.

Mind he had always only one version offered (at least what I remember), and at least vintage Franz pickups have different pole piece spacing depending if neck or bridge pickup! (neck pickup narrower than bridge pickup (same applies to the vintage small humbuckers by the way).
