Re: 66 Starfire

Welcome here JustinStrings, and way to make an entrance!

That one looks like a beautifully aged example, just oozing that wonderful Hoboken Guild mojo. The pickup placement and straight across bridge would definitely make it a '66. Does it have the original hard shell case by any chance?

The Fender next to it looks pretty cool too!

Re: 66 Starfire

Welcome. Just looking at it I'd describe it as a sunburst Starfire I with a Bisonic pickup "in the sweet spot". The headstock area is a little rough but otherwise it is in slightly above average condition for a Starfire from '65-'67. Everything looks present and original. The configuration is consistent with a 1966 date. Serial number would probably lock that it. Between BA-3xx and BA-55x perhaps?

In anticipation of your next question, I don't think anyone here has experience converting to a lefty and there are a lot of folks who would discourage a conversion on a bass that is pretty much in original condition. it looks like prices might be starting to rise a bit so if it sold on eBay for something between $1500 and $2000 I wouldn't be surprised. Drop that by $100 if no hard case.

Actually Hans reminded me that In The Beginning was the Bisonic and it was in the sweet spot and It Was Good!!!. So the only way I can tell this is a '66 instead of an early '65 is the wooden saddles.

It wouldn't be that hard to make it a lefty. New nut, realign the bridge saddles. Play with teeth.

Wow, great scores. I'm impressed! The strings on the starfire look soulful...like 40 year old LaBellas. How do they sound?
