This is for real. Mrs. West's daughter was married last weekend in Las Vegas. After the wedding, they posed for some outdoor shots. I've never posted pictures of the girls, but couldn't resist on this one. My niece took this one as a truck passed by in the backround  .

Of all the wedding photos taken that day I'm willing to bet this one is the one that will be talked about for many years.

Mrs. Wests's daughter had actually planned to get married in Houston last October. As the wedding date was approaching (A Saturday), so was hurricane Ike. Along about Tuesday, I told Mrs. West we might be going, about Thursday, I told her we weren't going.

The soon-to-be husband went ahead and flew in all of his relatives. They arrived in Houston Thursday and Friday morning that week. Hurricane Ike hit downtown Houston that Saturday morning with a fury..... 110-120 mph winds. The kids and the relatives hunkered down in a downtown hotel.

At the establishment in which they intended to be married, the roof caved in. With way too little insurance and Mrs. West's daughter's $10,000 deposit in hand, that establishment went bankrupt. The $10,000 deposit gone, court action is pending.

They've finally gotten around to getting married, this time as far away from the coast as they could get.

Quite the story West....with that bit of strain in the beginning days, working thru it, and standing by each other probably gives them a head start in being tested, and commitment....If that were a test, sounds like everyone came together to stand together...way to go...for all of you............so how are your puppies?... Steffan

They're good. My lab has discovered moles under what was the neatly stacked firewood. I've got oak sticks all over the yard. He's been digging and sniffing all day long for a couple of months now and just can't quite get to him (Mr. Mole)........funny to watch.

Ok, I suppose that photo won't be the highlight of the stories told about the wedding; maybe it'll be the subject of a good laugh after the enduring stories are told.

Well just the opinion of both myself and Mrs. West, but we think she should have just gotten married here in her hometown. Grandparents and family here......just a bit inconvenient for family and friends to do these destination weddings in our view. I didn't go, too much to do here and too expensive to jet up to Las Vegas, stay several days, eat out. My wife's father couldn't make it either due to his health.....he's 83 and wasn't about to go to Las Vegas for a wedding........... :) ......he didn't want to go anyway  .

I'm kind of an old fuddy duddy, but I think "destination weddings" are a bit selfish......but then I guess they are for the bride so it doesn't really matter what I think.

This has to be a touchy subject in your world but I'd have to say I'd agree with you.

Nah, not really Jim.....Mrs. West attended grudgingly. Ya see, my wife owns a portion of a wedding rental business. When her youngest daughter was married, the wedding was held here and Mrs. West was able to barter things like photography, catering and flowers with adverisement for those suppliers, as well as discounted rental. It cut the costs dramatically. Her oldest daughter called wanting to know how we intended to help her with a wedding in Houston since we had helped her sister and Mrs. West told her she was outta luck. She also told her she needed to get married here so relatives could attend, in that case, we'd help.

Her daughter chose Houston, then Las Vegas. Not a problem between me and the misses.
