I recently bought a re-issue Guild Starfire III-90 made in Fenders Corona, California plant. I paid a very small sum for this guitar, and could not be happier. I was just wondering if anyone knew how to date these guitars based on the serial numbers? I know they only made the Guild in Corona for a few years (2001-2004ish) but I would just like to know if I could specifically date it. I also cannot seem to find what these guitars cost to buy when they were brand new? I know they're going for around $1300-$1500 used, but can't seem to find what they were priced at new. Here are a few pics of my new baby:

You are right in there not being a ton of those floating around. It's probably one of the more desired "if Guild was making electrics" guitars. Welcome to the nuthouse!

Hello bsutter11,

Welcome! I assume you're the person who contacted me through my website a couple of days ago with the following message:

Hi, I was referred to you for pricing a 2004 Guild Starfire iii-90. Do you have any idea what this guitar is worth in excellent condition?

Even though it says on my website that I don't appraise guitars that I'm not actually holding in my hands I still get several e-mails a day with that request. I'm sorry but I never wanted to make that my day job!!

However, I can tell you that your Guild Starfire III-90 is from the year 2002 and at that time the instrument had a list price of U.S. $ 2299.99.

Sincerely,

Hans Moust

Wow. Thank you for your response! Yes that was me that sent that email to you. :) I only paid $650 for this guitar. I feel like I just won the lottery.

Beautiful guitar! You are a lucky man. I've had exactly one of these in my hands. 1400. Didn't grab it and should have. The SF III P90 is on my short list to buy or trade for.

Wow, really? I decided to sell this guitar TODAY, because I no longer have a job. I have to provide for my family now on what little money I have saved. Its my possession, and I can do whatever I want to do with it. I got this guitar because it was a great deal..now I'm selling it to provide for my family. What is so wrong with that? I do love this guitar, and would absolutely love to keep it, but I can't. You have absolutely no right to belittle me for selling this guitar. I know I can get the most money out of it from selling it on eBay, so that's what I am doing. I can't believe how quickly everyone has turned on me...this is ridiculous! How about you all get a pool of money together and send it my way so I can keep the guitar instead? Yeah, didn't think so. People are too quick to judge...this is why I'd rather hang out with my dog more than people.

Yes, you can certainly do what you want with your possesions. And it sucks you lost your job, so I hope the sale goes well for you. I think folks here feel somewhat betrayed when a new(-ish) member comes on to share a great guitar with the enthusiasts here and it appears that said person is just fishing for info to sell the item. Nothing wrong with that, but why not just state your intentions up front? We are a helpful group as you discovered, no need for hiding motives for the questions.

We have "higher ups" here?

That's funny!

Good luck with your sale. It's a cool guitar, sorry you have to sell it.

Can we tone it down here?

bsutter, if you're looking to sell this guitar, you are welcome to post a for-sale thread in the FS/FT section. Include your asking price and your pictures.

This thread is done fishing, I'm closing it.
