Hello,
I have this model Danelectro from the early 50s, it works but could use a complete overhaul, new caps, etc. Anybody have any suggestions for a tech in southern Connecticut who could do the work without charging an arm and a leg?

Hi Brad; don't know what it would cost in your area. Link to pics and discussion of a Danelectro Challenger Series D Model 89. Is this one like yours?

Yes, except mine doesn't have the contact paper but still the original cover material. I've run across a few others on line, going for $5-600 in good condition.

Just reviving this topic after a year, would also be willing to ship to a good restoration tech. And, once again it is the same as the one linked above, but cosmetically a little better. As I said, it does work, but could use an overhaul, probably mostly new caps and such, conversion to three prong plug.

Not quite local, but close. Best guy I know is Dave Hirsch at Dave's Sound, Whippany NJ. Been going there for years. He's quite busy, so it's not a fast turnaround. But he sure is good, has seen and worked on every damn thing.

Thanks, MD, still contemplating what to do. I have several other amps and rarely use them, so there's no hurry.
