I was looking inside my D30 and noticed there is quite a bit of flame on the interior. The outside of the back has basically none. Is it possible that it was supposed to be arched the other way with the flaming on the outside but a mistake was made at the factory?

Hi Dave,

Interesting thought. I can't answer that I as I don't know anything about wood selection or their lamination construction from the Westerly era.

I do agree though that I like the figuring of your interior more than the outside. I think that if they'd built that guitar in New Hartford I would be surprised at their choice.

Nice guitar, Dave! I wonder if it had something to do with the direction of the figured flame on the inside. From the photos, it looks like the direction of the wood grain flame extends perpendicular to the stings. The makers might have chosen the other side because it ran parallel to the strings and carried the lines straight through the guitar, top to bottom. Just a thought. Happy playing, no matter where the flame appears!
