FOlks,

I've been communicating with someone who wants to perhaps trade guitars with me. They have a D40 CE, s/n CRM000061 which I am guessing is a Corona-made Guild. I haven't seen it in person, and the pictures don't show the label clearly. Definitely not a Westerly, but maybe a nice guitar.

Anybody have an opinion? What would one be worth?

Hmmm. I thought Corona guitars only had a 2 letter prefix to the serial number, not 3.

I could be wrong, but it just struck me as odd.

If genuine, I would guess that if its in great condition, it should go for somewhere around $1000 or so. Obviously condition plays into it greatly.

I just have the s/n by way of an email from the owner. I suppose a typo is possible.

Hello Dave,

Ser. # CRM000061 would be correct for a Corona made D-40CE and a trading price of about $ 1000.00 would be fair.

Sincerely,

Hans to the rescue!

Thanks! So it seems 3 digit serial prefixes were used. Interesting.

Thanks, Hans. $1000 is in line with what we're looking at. I am thinking these guitars were pretty traditional, not having the issues of some of the "contemporary" series with the composite neck block designs.

There are a number of folks in this Forum who feel that Corona Guilds aren't up to the quality level of those built in the other locations.

I am NOT one of those folks! I owned a D-50 that was KILLER good and have played many others that were Corona-built. Loved them all!

I agree with the $1000 price tag.

My first Guild was a Corona D-25, Dave. Excellent guitar at an unreal fair price. Wish I had it back. It was a sunburst 'used' blemish model and try as I did, I was never able to find the blem.

A D-40 c or ce has been on my wish list for a long time. Go get it bro!!! Then sell it to me at a later date! :D

Thanks for the feedback, everybody. I appreciate it. Not sure what I'll do. I have kind of been one to prefer the pre-Fender Guilds, but not from experience.

My Corona D40 actually has better finish than the other two but the neck is a little thicker than the '25. Construction is every bit as good in ALL details. I appreciate it more every time I play it. Tonewise it has very good definition between each string compared to the '25. I think they were paying a lot of attention during early production. :)
