Since I put that composite photo together for the Black Keys SNL thread, it's now got me thinking it might be a good way to do my "sets" when I update my website. It might look a little better then the crummy pictures on the couch!

Here's the M-80's;

M-80s.jpg

1977 1981 1982

I do find it interesting, (and a little annoying) that with my cheap digital camera the color of the guitar body changes the color of the background!

Definite upgrade over the couch. Thanks.

I wonder if any of the photo pros have suggestions about the background? Interesting "problem".

Hi Kurt,

On the double cut starfires am I correct in thinking that the 67 has a Rosewwood fretboard whereas the two 66 models have ebony ?

(not that it really mattters but I wondered why they changed ?)

Cheers, Ian

Hello Ian,

They are all rosewood fretboards. The '67 Starfire V just has a lighter shaded rosewood. The shade of the rosewood really varies on Guilds.

The thing I really like about this new aproach is the ease of examining subtle year-to-year variations in a given model. 8)

It may be reacting to subtle or even humanly invisble parts of the spectrum which are being reflected by the instruments and causing it to adjust for brightness automatically, and maybe even color-compensating if it's got sophisticated enough circuitry.
Example: A knonwn phenomenon from paper manufacturing/printing business:
Perceived brightness of paper is commonly boosted by adding pigments which increase reflectivity in the blue part of the spectrum. The human eye perceives that as brighter.
In commercial printsshops, a "light box" is a common standard piece of equipment for comparing colors on printed piece under a known standard.
Try looking at something printed in color under different flourescent lights, then sunlight. You'll probably easily see the differences under each light source.
Just an educated guess for your consideration. :)

Well that's what I was doing, but it's hard as an amature to get the lighting correct for a good photo.

Here's the "couch" photo of the M-80's;

This is with two diffused photo floods and you can still get shadows and reflections.

If you were to use a flash it makes the shadows and reflections even worse! (Unless maybe if you had one of those fancy reflective flash umbrellas or light box!)

Kurt,

Composite or single/couch or backdrop background, I ALWAYS enjoy seeing your Guilds. :D

P.S. I, also, think your new picture/coffee table book is stellar. ;)

P.P.S. Wonder what buzz will be generated by the P.S. ? If it's too much, let me know, and I'll edit the post. 8) :lol: :wink:

Here's one for the basser's out there.

"Pickguard" Pilots:

Pilot-Pickguard.jpg

1983 SB-602 - 1984 SB-602 - 1984 SB-602

Notice that the red "first edition" Pilot only has 20 frets, the body isn't beveled, the pick-ups are positioned back towards the bridge, it has less pickguard screws, and the headstock shape is slightly different.

Now why does the middle one have a chrome bridge? Did they run out of black ones that day?
