I’m looking got a case for an x175, will the 17” alligator skin cases that come with the newer USA acoustics fit? Trying to to get a step up from the Chinese made newark st. Series cases and I’m seeing new/used guild TKL on reverb that look like they are for 17” acoustics. Any experience ?

Welcome

Someone will be along with a definitive answer shortly ;]

What year X175?
Mystery 1959, oddball , maple top, so basically x175 shape and electronics, but maple ply top ( so double back lol) and no label, no glue or evidence of ever having label.

Maybe a genuine vintage case is an option then, if you're more of a vintage purist.

TKL cases are great though, and maybe better for shipping than old cases.

Lifton "built like a fortress" and Ess & Ess case from way back when are some of the best built cases I've ever seen, personally, and my problem with TKL cases lately is some smell like they've been dipped in perfume, and that I cannot handle.

I have a Guild case for a 1990's Guild acoustic I'm currently selling, mostly because the case stinks, and the case is permanently kicked out of the house, relegated to the back of one of my trucks with canopy on it until it sells, and even then I can smell it when I walk by, atrocious.

I researched it to see if others had this experience and they did, and it turns out TKL used "vanilla scented glue".

The use of toxic "fragrance" in products is frightening.

I just received a gigbag in the mail that was wrapped in a "scented trash bag" and same deal, the gigbag is going to have air in the sun for days until I can bring it in the house, and the trashbag was making the whole yard stink, unreal.

I feel you, as I’ve gotten older I get headaches from most perfumes and aromatic solvents. Mildew is a big one for me so I’ve been hesitant to buy a vintage case unseen.

Mildew might be a big deal in PDX for sure, some other places not so much. I just bought two vintage Guilds, both in original cases, both from Cali, not even a hint of musty odor from either case.

Anymore, I'm asking sellers about smell. It's that big a deal.

I bought a case from a guy on Reverb yesterday, and not only he told me that it had been in his smoke free possession for 2 years, that it had no smell he could discern, he sent me a video of the case. I was blown away, never had anyone do this even for a guitar.

The right case will come along no doubt.

Ask and ye shall receive ;]

The case video.

This is a pretty nice case, brand new Guild, 5 latch, burgundy interior, way cheaper than vintage.

I’ve tried messaging that seller a couple times, the x175 is 17” and the ad says the case is 16”, so I’m a little confused as to what size it actually is.

I recently bought a Guild jumbo case for my F50 from Guild, and since the F50 has a 17" lower bout, it should fit you X175, although the F50 may be a little deeper at 4.8". It looks like they are currently out of stock at Guild, but maybe you can find one at a dealer.

Suspect that case is actually a Corona case due to the oval badge, have it on my D40's case.
Last price list for Westerly shows a specific case for X-170:

I bring that up because in Corona the X175 was replaced by the X180 Park Avenue:

No clue what lower bout size was on X-180, but we know lower bout dimensions shifted a bit on Corona X-160's and Starfires too IIRC.

Lotta misinformation posted by sellers, and to be fair, spec info for Guilds has been pretty hard to find on the internet for a long time.
Might i suggest contacting TKL about what may currently replace that C4526 case listed in last Westerly list?

Also, some of those cases are same outline but vary slightly in depth to ensure snug fits, such as the cases for the F65ce vs the F47ce.

The same may be true for 17" bodies. It may well be a case for an F50 will fit the X175 although maybe a bit deeper?

Hope that helps.

Here’s a pic of my Newark Street x-175b in a Guild TKL jumbo alligator case. Fits nicely along the sides but there is maybe a 1” gap between the back and the case along the back of the upper bout. FWIW, a seller safely shipped me an x-500 in this case.3B27884E-747A-4D8E-B4BA-B6F31AB712A4.jpeg

I've been watching those 170/175/180 listings with curiosity, too, and can't come to an explanation of how a case that fits the X-170 would fit any full-size guild archtop.

I like that jumbo tip, though -- great idea!

Thanks, and oh yeah, just figured out, on the Westerly list that'd be the C5217 and perhaps they forgot to include "Jumbos" (17"lower bout flattops) in the list of models it was used for? Little glitches like that are a known hazard in their lit.

And perhaps the difference between the dedicated C4526/X170 case and the C5217/X700 case is body depth?

Note there's no corresponding "Standard" case listed for the X170, as there is for jumbos. The "Standard" cases had flat tops and the Deluxe had arched tops as seen in that listing and like was supplied with my D40. But an F50 (or JF65 at that time, actually) would get the "Deluxe" case as part of the package whereas a JF30 would get a "Standard".

I did get that the OP's guitar is 17" lower bout, right? 🙃 Sometimes I go a little sideways. :)

My X-350 does *not* fit in my NH F-50 Standard case. Maybe archtop.com?
I bought a case from there that fit my CE-100D fine, except it's a little to deep. @AcornHouse scored me a later year case that fit perfectly.
Hella nice case though.

Was it a body depth or outline issue? Is the NH case flattop or arched? Just asking out of curiosity, as I don't now if NH offered 2 levels of cases like Westerly. Possibly the arched top case also allows clearance for Guildsby if attached, whereas the flattop wouldn't?

Body shape. As would not go in the case at all.
