Case options for vintage M-75?

Hopefully I'll be getting my vintage M-75 in in the next week or so. I need to check with the seller, but there is no case mentioned, so I'll probably need one. I'm wondering if all the Bluesbird type models would fit in the same case? For example, I might come across a case for a Dearmond Bluesbird fairly inexpensively - would that fit? Also, in the Les Paul world I know that a number of folks like the Gibson "Protector" cases as they provide superior protection - is there any similar "better" case for the Bluesbird models? How about a Peavey T-60 case with some redone padding inside?

Re: Case options for vintage M-72?

You talk about your '67 M-75 I guess, not a M-72, or? You might want to change the title to "Case options for 1967 M-75".

Re: Case options for vintage M-72?

If you are counting on a DeArmond case, you'd better have a lot of fingers. :-(
I looked for one for a loooooong time and ended up buying an Epiphone Wildkat case. They only seem to make a limited run of them each year and they sell out quick. Mine is a little too deep for my DeA, but measure the depth on your M-75 when it comes in. It might be that this case fits your guitar and that would be good to put into the knowledgebase here. I understand that a Gretsch case for one of the Jet models might fit my guitar better. If that's the case, maybe we can work something out.

I'm pretty sure the lower bout of the M-75 is too wide to fit in a Les Paul case.

Oops - posting while caffeine is too low - its M-75 not 72.

I realize a Les Paul case won't work - I was just mentioning the Protector case as an example of availabilty for Les Pauls of a somewhat preferred option for cases as an example of what I'd like to find for the Guild.

So nobody knows for sure if the Bluesbird/M-75/Aristocrat models have the same dimensions through the years? I'm thinking if not we have the perfect resource to find out - we just all measure our guitars and compare here.

I've got my Aristocrat in a Gretsch jet case and it fits almost perfectly for what it's worth. Just a little wiggle room.

Hans has all those dimensions. Since your M-75 still has an Aristocrat body I would say you need a case that fits a 60ties M-75 Aristocrat body.

I forget now. What happened to case your Aristocrat came in?

I didn't realize how weak it was and that the top was slightly busted, separated along one side. When I brought it to a guitar show along with a bunch of other stuff the top got squashed in and that's what pushed the switch in.

Measuring the guitars is a good idea! Considering how we as a group seem to be scrambling for cases for our non-Gibson, non-Fender electrics.

Vintage Guild M-75's come in a few different flavors. The Aristocrats and early M75 Bluesbirds, made from the left over Aristocrats, issued in 1967 won't fit in a Les Paul case. The width of the body and the spacing between the neck and body don't line up correctly. However the 1968 and 1969 M75 Bluesbirds will fit a Les Paul case. (I purchased a Blond 1968 Bluesbird years ago from Diamond Strings and it came in a old Les Paul case. I tried to put an Aristocrat in the case and it didn't fit!). The M75 solid body guitar is also slightly different and I don't remember if it fits in a Les Paul case. I currently use a later model Bluesbird case from the 1990's for a 1970 M75 semisolid Bluesbird and a similar one for a 1970 M-80. The Westerly era cases with the purple inside fleese fit more snugly than the Corona Bluesbird cases with the green fleese. I think the Westerly era cases were made by TKL.
I have a moderately priced Epiphone case that works well with Aristocrats and Freshman. I assume it was for a Epi Les Paul but I am not sure. It is very well made and padded. I think they run around $50 new.

BTW, DeArmond M75's are similar in proportion to the Aristocrats. Another subtle item is the M75 is slightly different in neck body proportion from a M75T. I had both at one time and one didn't fit in the Epi case I mentioned! I think the DeArmond M77 series has a similar issue between the models- it has been to long when I had a pair to compare. Another subtle item between the DeArmonds M75 and M77 is the M77 is a bit thinner -possibly 1/8 inch but my memory is uncertain.

So which kind of M-75 are we talking about?

I found an Ibanez case for my M-65 (I think the full-scale M-65 and M-75 are similar in size).

Just hunt around out there, there are some that'll fit.

Its a '67, with the Aristocrat like body, humbuckers, and wooden bridge.

Got it in, love it.
It fits nicely in a Gibson second generation Protector case (the bigger one with the metal latches).

Mind that the discussed 1967 M-75 has an old Aristocrat body, your 72 Bluesbird might have a different body size. Not sure how much they differ in size.

Thanks Ralf.

I was looking at a case on the bay.
I guess I will not purchase now until I can find out for sure.

Much appreciated.
