My wife and I were in Carmel, CA for a few days and I shot this pic of my '74 D-40 on the porch of our room at the Tickle Pink Inn today (Room 4) It doesn't get much better than this... beautiful view, beautiful woman, beautiful guitar!

And this guy was a regular who was really into Guild D-40's:

The Tickle Pink Inn is located in Carmel Highlands a few miles south of Pebble Beach on Highway 1. We've been going there a couple times/yr for over 30 yrs now. If you're looking for a GREAT spot to stay in this area, look no further.

Yeah, the name makes it sound like a flop joint in Las Vegas!

However, it is owned by a famous old California family whose last name IS "Tickle" (how'd ya like to have grown up with THAT last name...).

One of the Tickle's was a California Senator years back. He originally built a cottage on the property that he both used and loaned to friends. It became so popular because of the views that he added the Inn.

GREAT place!

Oh nice... :D Heard Simon & Garfunkle '.... from Berkley to Carme-e-el...." in my head, On the Guild, in this case, of course. And fellow LTGers have certainly created an atmosphere for you.

You left out the pic of the "beautiful woman". :)

Peace
He was trying to distract us with that gorgeous D40, and of course he threw a Western Gull in there to confuse ME!

Joe

I immediately saw your influence in that shot, Joe. But what really bugs me about the first photo is that appears that 6L6's D-40 is having way more fun than we are, or at least I am. :?

LOL!

As for the beautiful woman I mentioned, my gorgeous wife of 42 yrs won't let me post her picture!

My D-40 has been all over the world with me and my youngest daughter. It's busked many times in the London Underground and entertained some folks at Cape McMurdo, Antarctica. It's my all-time fav guitar I've ever owned.

About ten years ago I had a Fishman Matrix pup installed in it. As you know, not all acoustics "agree" with pups, but the Fishman works extremely well in this guitar.

I should add that all of the traveling this guitar has done has been in it's original factory hardshell case. Whether it was in the cargo hold of the USAF C-141 Starlifter I flew for 23 years or checked through luggage with the airlines, I've never had a problem of any kind.

My home for 23 wonderful years:

The beautiful old C-141 I believe. Well behaved aircraft!!! I had some involvement with the NASA flight tracker version, and I love this picture of a 141 deploying flares.

The NASA version

Those are beautiful pictures, 6. Carmel and surrounding areas are some of the prettiest places on earth, no doubt. I used to go up a couple times a year in my late teens to compete in the Spring and Summer horse shows @ Pebble Beach. Of course, I loved the riding and the competition, but just being up there was so peaceful and beautiful. It's some of my fondest memories of my youth.

Thanks for sharing the pictures and bringing back some great memories. Beautiful guitar too!!

Glad you folks enjoy the pics. I'm finally comfortable with my iMac and how to post them!

The C-141 was a fantastic plane to fly. She'd fly just great on two engines and would even fly on just one if it was an inboard. Each Pratt &. Whitney turbofan put out over 22,000 lbs of thrust.

The NASA C-141 pictured above sits about 100yds from the golf course I play most every week (Moffett Field CA). It's still the lowest time C-141 airframe in existence, but hasn't flown in many years and would need a LOT of work to be made airworthy again. Very sad...

When the North Vietnamese got their shoulder-held SAMS, we added flare ports to every C-141. The Loadmasters were assigned to fire them if there was a sign of trouble.

Here's a couple more pics of the C-141B:

Notice how on the top photo the engines on each wing are pointed slightly inward. This provided a force moment in front of the plane that aided stability and allowed use of the negative dihedral wing. Cool stuff back in the day!

Roger that, Scratch!

I did all of my flying out of Travis AFB in the 86th MAS and 708th MAS. Both squadrons are sadly now deactivated.

Sierra Hotel on the accomodations and the view. Tickle Pink Inn is now on our list of places to visit during future travels. If room 4 is available, that's where we'll perch. So to speak... :D

6, you need to meet Major Scratch up close and personal. I think they tried to talk him into a light Colonelship, but he chose retirement.
