Two-thirds of Sleater-Kinney (Brownstein and drummer Janet Weiss) making up half of Wild Flag makes this a much anticipated album for me as well. Nice to see the S-100 DeLuxe in action again.

And I'll throw a shout out to another Guild-wielding female singer/guitar player, Christy Hunt of the Minneapolis band Pink Mink, whose debut album came out in June. Christy's playing a S-90 with what appear to be replacement DiMarzio pickups.

Another similarity between Wild Flag and Pink Mink. Christy Hunt and Arzu Gokcen play guitar for Pink Mink, with Hunt's husband, Charles Gehr, manning the drums and Jacques Weit on bass.

Here's a link to a live version of their song "Seekin' Scott Seekins," in which Weit wears a dress for some reason.

Wild Flag played a sold-out show the other night at the Varsity in Minneapolis, and Carrie Brownstein put her S-100 DeLuxe to good use....

I'm a big fan of Sleater-Kinney. They did a show at the Coachella Festival in 2006 that you can find on Youtube. Just start by searching "1/11 Sleater" and each of the 11 songs will show up. Ms. Brownstein utilizies her Guild S-100 DeLuxe on 9 of the 11 songs, switching to a Gibson SG for songs 2 and 3.

She was on Letterman last week the S-100. Between Wild Flag and The Black Keys, Guild electrics are getting a lot of play on national TV lately.

Vintage Guild electrics. :D

Would I have to revoke my membership if I admitted that given a choice between the two guitars on stage, I'd probably choose Mary Timony's Jazzmaster? Shh. Don't tell anybody! That S100 is a beauty, but I've never gotten along well with SG type guitars and a JM has been on my wish list.

Good performance, btw. They screwed up the breakdown in the middle of the song, but the flub didn't detract from the energy. Still, I felt bad for them -- the clams always haunt you, even if nobody notices them.

It's as if Carrie's saying, "D'oh. Kslam likes Mary's Jazzmaster more than my DeLuxe."

And for guitar geeks like us (or more specifically like me), the problem with wearing dark clothing while playing a black guitar is that you have trouble seeing the guitar, especially in dark lighting on the Letterman stage. Not a problem with the natural finished Jazzmaster. This was the only screen grab I could pull where you could clearly see the horns on the S-100 Deluxe.

I wouldn't want to offend her, so if Carrie offers it to me, I'll accept!

I do think those guitars look very cool. I just wish I got along with them better. I didn't bond with my M80 either. Love my Starfires though.

Best shot I've seen yet of Ms. Brownstein and her S-100 DeLuxe. Looks like she swapped out a couple of the G-shield knobs.

And here she seems to be screaming about how smudged her guitar is...
