I saw Buddy one time and it was horrible! He would start a song, get through the first verse and maybe half of the chorus and then stop and say; "I don't want to play that one!". Then he would launch into another song and do the same thing! I'm not sure if he ever played a complete song the whole night! He must have forgotten to take his ADD meds. He for sure didn't take his Valium as in the "middle" on one song he stopped and looked down to the crowd and yelled; Shut the f*ck up! You don't be talked while I'm working' up here!" Then he launched lurched off into another tune!

The warm-up act was Jimmy Vaughn and he blew Buddy off the stage!

Buddy drinks Remy Martin onstage too. I saw him at Bethel Woods in Sullivan County, NY and had a backstage pass, so I was standing in the wings with Buddy's guitar tech, a super nice guy, who kept refilling Buddy's paper cup with Remy during the course of his set. That was the night I learned to like Remy myself. Great stuff. Buddy was opening for B.B. King. That's another story altogether.

Buddy has been consistently disappointing live. I have seen him a few times and the only instance he was ever "on" was the time I saw The Rolling Stones at the Beacon Theatre in NYC, one of the nights Martin Scorsese filmed the movie Shine A Light. I was up in the balcony. Buddy was the opening act and he killed it, because he knew he had to. His set was preserved for posterity on film. I also interviewed Buddy over the phone for Premier Guitar and that went pretty well, surprisingly.

Overall, I can't say I'm a fan of Buddy's music or his playing, but he is one of the last remaining Chess bluesmen.

I've seen Buddy live a few times, admittedly the last time was quite s few years back, but he was never anything less than phenomenal every time!
As a side note, I was given a bottle of Remy Martin V.S. Petite Champagne Cognac Grand Cru some years back. Seriously nice stuff! Still got some left:cool:
