Ok just heard from sis in law. There were four bombs, two went off. The bomb dogs sniffed out the other two. One bomb was ignited by the bomb squad the other I think they dismantled. She's fine but may have to go to work later. Don't know about the fire at the library. She say's the event was very complicated and well planned. That's all she heard so far.

ABC reported earlier the fire was mechanical and not related. Still too early though.

Glad to see your sister in law is safe.

I'm not sure how what I said could be taken so incorrectly, but Tom, you clarified what I was saying nicely:

"what has it been since the incident, 5 + hours of talking? And there is less than 4 minutes of facts. It's okay to dislike that. Just tune out. No one is saying this event isn't significant and horrific. But watching hour after hour of it is not going to help anyone or keep you more informed."

Looks like the people that I know who were there, including one of my neighbors who ran, are OK. This is going to be really tough on our little state... the marathon has always been such a popular, unique event.

Pretty shocking, folks. Most of us in Massachusetts are still reeling about this, so let's leave difficult media coverage and other soapbox nonsense out of this thread, please. I, for one, would appreciate it.

That's appropriate, Chazmo. Thoughts and prayers to the victims, there are some horrific injuries being reported. And not much sadder than the Richard family. The father was running, and he lost his 8 year old son in the blast. His wife and daughter were also severely injured.

Lots of innocent people had their lives changed forever. I grew up in MA, but never attended this event. At the college where I teach that is just outside Boston, we had a few people running, and many students volunteering. As of now, everyone appears to have returned safely.

I wonder if the police will ever catch who did this?

we should all just wait for the facts...

there were only two bombs...those that went off. they didn't find any other devices, and the fire at the jfk library was unrelated.

it's a terrible situation for every american, especially those directly impacted by the events. in the rush to gain the big scoop and pass along information to the public many media personnel and outlets get it wrong. our thoughts should be with those who lost love ones and the injured.

The facts probably won't be known for awhile. The third explosion was televised. It's not unusual for the police et al to put out false information and see who tries to correct them. More than one criminal has been caught by saying stupid stuff on social media. Police monitor FB and twitter constantly. All the facts may never come out. My mom used to say, "don't believe anything you hear and only half of what you see". Just can't help feeling sad. :(

Since the return of LTG, a lot has happened! The school I teach at in Newton MA is closed today, as is most of the city. As of now, one bomber dead, one on the run. Tragically, an MIT police officer killed last night.

I'm sure you all are following the news. Keep praying for the families of those killed, and for the continued healing for those injured in the original attack.

All us "locals" and I'm sure the rest of the LTG community send our ongoing positive thoughts and hopes to all those affected by this tragedy.

I just spoke with my friend who lives in Waltham suburb. Everyone's on edge naturally. After the Post mis-identified a couple of brothers let's hope people don't get too unraveled and do something stupid. Stay safe ya'll

Peace
