Congrats on the anniversary. It will be eight more years before I celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of being noisily woken up from a crappy bed by a loud dude who seemed old as the hills but was probably in his late twenties and marched down to the barber shop with fifty or so of my new closest friends to have my hippy locks shorn to stubble.

When we first stepped off the bus, some kid looked out the window of a building and yelled "You guys are in a WORLD of sh*t!"

Not the last time I would hear that nautical phrase...

You're good! I would never have made it.

My brother-in-law had the same problem. After two weeks of boot camp they gave him his discharge papers. They read: "Unable to be regimentized."

That must be why it's called boot camp.

Of course - that's part of their whole ploy to convince you who's in charge, and it ain't you.

I heard they aren’t allowed to physically discipline anyone anymore. Beating-wise, that is. Anyone know if that is true?

In the mid 90's while touring the coast, heading for Hilton Head, we missed a turn somewhere and wound up staring at the gates to Paris Island at 3am. You'd never seen a bus full of long haired rockers make a faster 3 pt turn to get the hell out of there!! Sir No Sir!!!

They never touched me in boot camp. The beatings must have ceased by '72.

Me neither in 1971. They could get in your face and make you do pushups, burpies or jumping jacks until the sun went down but they couldn't get physical. I think Zumwalt put an end to that kind of thing.
