I thought I might share my newest creation. It was a boring ol' Silvertone dread that was quite beat-up. It was cracked, peeling, and worn down. The frets would cut your hand if you tried to play it! I added a Gretsch Lap Steel pickup with a single volume knob, did a bit of fret work, and it came back to life! It is a bit of an ugly duckling for sure!
Since the guitar was so beat already, I decided to attempt to match the "vibe" of the guitar, attempting to make it look like the mods were done long ago. I used a modern Gretsch lap steel pickup, a control plate off a 50s/60s Silvertone 1454 or Harmony H-75, speed knob style off of a 1960s Japanese Teisco/Kingston, vintage Switchcraft 1/4 jack from an old Kustom amplifier, and a snuff can lid for the jack plate. It plays decently, but I am debating if I should add a slide nut and turn it into a Hawaiian style dobro. The bridge is terrible and has to go, I just need a replacement. I tried to use what I had lying around, and I'm pleased with the result! Hope y'all enjoy!
