I have never found many Gibsons that appealed to me. Too spotty in both quality and tone. But I ran across a Hummingbird Artist the other day, and it really spoke to me. Actually, sounds and plays like a cross between a Martin and a Guild - so I had to take it home with me. I haven't had a chance to really clean it up, yet.

But why do they put their bridges on upside down???

Sweet. Love the colour :!: :D :!:

I've been on a J45 kick of late. Have not found one to pull the trigger on. I agree re: Gibsons rep for inconsistancy. But I think the new guitars coming out of Bozeman are pretty good.

Good answer. It took my age-addled brain a minute or two to see where you were going...

I think these HB Artists are one of Gibson's better models for consistency. Every one I have played has been very nice and I have yet to see a bad review from others who have them. These started out being a Guitar Center exclusive, not sure if that is still the case. Nice purchase.

I know exactly how you are feeling. I picked up an 07 Gibson Les Paul Studio in mint condition and really like the way it plays. As someone here said "Let us go forth to love and serve Guild and one another". Slow944s

Gibson's inconsistent quality has been well documented pretty much everywhere. However when they're good, they're really good. I know, as after wanting a nice Gibson dread for a long time, and playing dozens of them that never did anything for me, I got run over by a Songwriter Deluxe Ovangkol. It has been a bit problematic though. The latest thing is some buzzing on the open (low) E, A, and D string that sounds suspiciously like a loose brace under the top. :(

I think its to prevent lawsuits by Martin, or just to be different from Martin.

I also read they were a GC exclusive, but I see that Gibson lists them on their website, so maybe it's more widely available? They finish it with a "Heritage Cherry" wash instead of a full sunburst, which is supposed to make them a little cheaper to produce, but I like the finish. Has a more basic pickguard, which I also prefer. Main thing though, is that the neck is great and the tone is nicely balanced.

Boy, she's a beauty. Some of those old Hummingbirds really sing!

Congrats, Dave. A good Gibson is a wonderful thing. I've been wanting one for a long time. One of these days...

I'm with you there Dave in the world of sinners.....
My first true acoustic guitar "love" was my Dove, when I played that thing for the first time, my lower jaw droppped to the ground. It's true that it's a little bit "all or nothing" with Gibson, but when you get it all, it sure feels good.....
Beautiful guitar, can't wait to hear it!
