Hi there,

Seeing as how I have been harrassing everyone lately about F20/ M20's. thought I had best get around to introducing myself and saying gidday.

My name is Ian, and I like Guitars. I live in Nelson, New Zealand (about 4 hours up the road from coastie), and have been playing guitar for about 18 months or so. I'm in that older learner category: actually bought my first guitar when I was 22, but never had the time to learn to play it. At 48 I figured that it was something that I had always wanted to do, so here I am !! I'm still not much good, all the regular cowboy chords, just started doing B's, but I get together with a couple of guitar buddies and we have a good sesh every Tuesday night (that's tonight !!).

My Guild is Westerly D55, which Hans has dated from July 2000. It's a magnificent guitar, sounds like an orchestra of angels. Did my one and only (first) gig at the local folk club a couple of months back (songs were Bon Ivers Skinny Love and the Handsome Family's My Beautiful Bride), and a couple of guys said to me afterwards how great the Guild sounded.

Hopefully these photo's will pop up here with my Guitar collection, right next to my other pride and joy which is my record collection. I've got a wife and kids too but I didn't figure you'd want to see photo's of them....

Cheers, Ian

NB: Turns out I cant add attachments, how do I put photo's on here ?

Most of the guys sign up for a photobucket account and then you can copy the url of the pic. Paste it between the URL tags and viola!
Code:
[url]paste/the/pic/here.example.com[/url]

Nice to have another Newsylander on board!

Dude, I can't believe I'm the first to welcome you...welcome! This is a great place, you'll like it here.

As for adding photos first you'll need a place to store your photos online so they can be attached. I use Photobucket but I'm sure others here will suggest other online locations. Once you have the photos posted on an online site you simply copy the Img URL and then click on the "Img" button above and paste your Img URL between the "Img" and the "/Img" in this reply window. That's all there is to it.

Yeah, what he said up there - haha!

Welcome again,
Jim

Welcome Ian,

The glamour shots of your instruments are spectacular.

If I was Coastie, your pictures would have me pondering the chance to play a D55 8)

Hi Ian, and welcome! Nothing like some fine guitars to motivate the learning process...especially the D-55!

Welcome Guitardude!

That's from somebody who has been here just long enough to rise to his wobbly feet. (think: brand new baby calf) You have already passed me on picture-posting skills, but I am pressing hard from the rear (now switch to horse racing analogy). I share with you the enthusiasm over D55 magic and I am amazed that an old geezer like you would be gigging so fast. Hey, I started in high school, am now older than you, and I don't know if I ever played out in anything other than a church/worship context. Kudos my man! About a month ago I was in Africa, playing and singing guitar in my sleeping quarters, an empty, resonant building, when some of the other guys actually called for more songs to go to sleep by. Nobody ever asked me that before...it was like having the prettiest girl in high school come up an ask you you to ask her to the prom....it just never happens. All that to say there's hope for us aging guitarists!

Once again...Welcome

Actually getting together with Coastie on monday next to see his F20, dont usually take the Mighty Guild away (that's what the Breedlove is for...), but seeing as how it's a special occasion...

And yes that is a Vinyl collection behind the guitars. What you dont see are the other shelves groaning under the weight in the other corner..

Thanks for all the Welcomes and Kind words,

Cheers, Ian

Hey Ian, and welcome. D55's are fabulous guitars, aren't they? By the way, I've been a beginner for over 40 years  .

And me for 30 - guess it's time to learn a 4th chord now  Ian - hopefully you are more civilized than Coastie who keeps his Heinies cool in an old toilet pan
