His death had somehow slipped under our radar here. My wife was unaware, just told her. She used to play some small inner-city venues here, in the 70s; met him once or twice.

Until Tommy Emmanuel came along I always thought Bert was the best acoustic guitarist on the planet.
A friend of mine went to a boarding school in Scotland back in the day. They had a music class you could sign up for and these "unknown" guys would show up and jam with you. Bert was one of the guys who would drop in, Rory Gallagher was another.
My friend said both guys were just great to be around in every respect.
