My understanding is that bearclaw appears only on wood cut right on the quarter and in that way it is an indicator of the "best" cut.
If that is right then looking at the soundhole edge you should see the grain showing absolutely vertical as you observe it towards the tailpiece or towards the neck.

Someone who owns the factory that builds them (or has a patent on a a guitar stand that is invisible from certain angles).

Image is from images.guildguitars.com...

Now I see what you mean! Yes I agree, not a safe way to let a guitar stand like this! As a manufacturer they probably did not care to much and the company who took/produced the photos probably neither...

The photographer hired to shoot the ad or the photos for the website. It's a clean look, guitar stands add clutter. This picture tells a story in it's simplicity, you know exactly what's going on - someone just finished playing it for the moment and stepped out of the frame, all while propping it up against his or her stool. If you put a stand in there you start to get confusion, was someone just playing it or is it just always stored that way.

The funny thing about us photogs, sometimes, in order to make something look good we do things that no one involved with that subject would ever do. As a guitar player, I wouldn't do this. As a photographer, absolutely. As a manufacturer who creates these by the thousands, no problem, if it falls and breaks I've got others, and I can fix this one and sell it as a second.

All that said, she's a beauty and I'd hate to see her tip over.

cheers

Oh, I know the photo was from Guild.. I just wouldn't have set it up that way. Just my opinion, and it obviously differs from others', but that photo doesn't say simplicity or anything, it says someone's being really careless with the guitar. That's like taking a photo of a baby hanging over the balcony - you can tell me the baby's got a safety harness on, you can spin a story about what the photo conveys, all I can think of is splattered baby brain on the sidewalk.

On second thought... perhaps Guild is promoting their warranty?

Absolutely. I had a "friend "who used to do that in my house, (with his guitar) I actually had to make it against the rules in my house. He still wouldn't listen. Then he'd complain about me not letting him play my Guilds. Eventually I had to fire him for sheer rudeness. :x

Well timed thread. My Guild GSR F30 with bearclaw spruce is about to arrive today. :D

I'll report how it looks and sounds. Perhaps I can post some pictures where the guitar stands in the middle of the room, just beeing hold by a breath of fresh air. And a brezel. Brezels are very important in bavarian photographers history.

And any good photographer also knows where to put gum, grippy pads or something non-slip on the floor AND on the stool where you can't see them... nobody wants to pay for breaking a loaner.

And I like nice figure in wood; I think it's beautiful but if you can hear the difference between clean straight grain Spruce and Bear Claw in a blind test I'll pole-vault to the moon and walk back.

And another GSR F-30 Rosewood in Munich !!! Great! You got it from Musik-Schmidt in Frankfurt? They had 3 when I bought my one in 2010. He shows all 3 as sold now!
Best regards,
Ralf

Agree with all you say, Joe!! So, you don't have to pole vault alone. I'll take the trip with you!! It's an indication of very high-quality spruce and side by side..... I think you're not gonna be able to tell the difference.

Beautiful yes, but with my palate, I have found $10 bottles of wine that taste just as good to me as ones that cost $150. Often times this is the case, but not always.
