My daughters are accomplished photographers and have given me some tips. Here's my first attempt at an artsy guitar photo. Maybe I'll stick to researching guitars instead of photographing them. :)

I think that's a fantastic photo!

I used to be into photography until digital cameras (and later, cell phones!) turned me off completely. . . .

I had it just the opposite way - I used to have a decent Nikon camera - even have some shots that I like after all these years - but while the film and development cost was something to concider - way too often when I got the pictures my reaction was : "What was I thinking when shooting this?" - ( and not talking about any finesses like composition 😂 . . . ) - with digital - just ditch it if no good - and when a really good one - in my opinion - comes - then I may have it printed at local shop who does high-quality prints.

When I was big into photography and got lots of books and bought lenses and hung out in forums, I always wanted to develop a creative eye. Look at a scene and find that angle and lighting and subject that shows in in the books. I don't think it ever happened. I would look at a scene and KNOW there was something good in it, because I stopped and spent time looking and thinking about it. A real photographer could have found the gem in the picture.

Well, thanks. Kids haven't figured out it's tough to teach an old dog new tricks. :)

I need to be done with artsy photography
It's a lot of work, results may be subtle. Using mirrors could be some newfangled Instagram thing, because people no longer have the patience to see only one side at a time.

Back to the pic. The guitar looks good and has potential, but having a hard time connecting, the second upper pic is best, a better shot of the headstock, which to me is like a face.

I like that mirror.

When it comes to photography everyone is a critic. I mean, that’s true with any creative endeavor but somehow I find it worse with photography. Everyone is an “expert”and everyone loves to tell you what’s wrong. God forbid you tell a Photo forum what gear you’re using because you’re an idiot, you’re doing it wrong, and on and on and on. I love photography, but man oh man is the online photography community awful.

Sorry. That felt like a PTSD flashback. :)

"is the online photography community awful."

And it's mostly the same handful in a given forum, too. This group is helpful and constructive and those folks over there are always the ones you know will have nothing good to say. God forbid I have a lens that has " ugly bokeh ".

I think you could have....

No wait.

Thank you for the pleasurable time I spent looking at it and trying to confirm the identity of what I was looking at. I think, though, I might hate you if that were a 1,000 piece jigsaw puzzle :)
