This guy is my teacher for this session at the Old Town School of Folk music. It's gonna be a great class, I think. Can anyone tell from this very short glimpse of the headstock what MFG guitar this is. It's not the one he brings to class. And yes, I know I could ask him next week, and I will. I just wondered if anybody recognizes it.

Boy, me too. That's a song they teach early on in the first guitar classes. Not quite that bluesey, but still pretty cool.

Well, I can tell you what it ain't, it ain't a Martin nor a Guild for sure. I am leaning toward a Goya from the look of the Headstock and the headstock is of course styled after a Martin. If it isn't a Goya then it is some knid of Custom guitar maker who likes to style his Guitars after Martin 000s. Well, at least that is my take on it. BTW I like the song, Too, they did a fine job on it.

Good call Jimbo...I think it is a Goya too ... was trying to think of a company with a g j p or y in the middle..Goya fits the bill...
I used to own a Sigma that was a small bodied martin style like he is playing...was a great sounding little guitar.

My stepdaughter has one of those small Sigmas (made by Martin?), looks like a Martin 00- or 000-size and it's a great little campfire guitar. I borrowed it a couple of years ago for a week-long camping trip into Canada and I couldn't put it down.

Tony congrats on taking a class with Steve D...he's the guy that's been my guru for years now at OTS. That guitar sure looks like his, tho I've never noticed the headstock logo...his personal guitar is a custom-made OM with I think a rosewood back that he plays everything with and man can he play it. Welcome to the Dawson club...he is the best damned instructor and one of the best guitar player's and writers in Chicago or anywhere. I've also taken his writer's classes and he is just brilliant. Enjoy...you'll be a better player...tell Steve David says hi...

I will do so. I'm finding out that the name of the class I take isn't nearly as important as the teacher. I'm certainly going to take as many classes as I can from Steve. Are you taking any classes right now?

I just bought a dread sized Sigma (DR-35) for my god-daughter, and 80's in mind condition. This thing sounds just fantastic. They where made in Korea for Martin, using Martin specs and supplied materials. The tuners where cheaper of course, and the back and sides usually laminated (the DR-35 is laminated rosewood), but with a bone saddle and nice bridge pins - this thing plays and sounds like a Martin. I wanted to keep it.

Hi Tunes

Some of the Sigmas were not very good and the rest of them were just plain awesome...they were made in a few different locations starting off in Japan in the 70's...they often had solid tops and laminated back and sides, were made according to Martin specs offshore...the one I had had the most beautiful tone...of course the wood has aged now and that has added to the great tone. Wish I had kept it as it was a small bodied guitar just right for pickin on the couch...really comfortable. :)
