You likely already know this but if not, there is a Grammy tribute to the Beach Boys on Sunday ay8:00 p.m. Eastern on CBS.

I've seen a number of these type tributes and I really enjoy hearing other atists renditions of hit songs written by those being honored. The only real downsidwe is all of the commercials but oh well.

Maybe a lot of you are too young to appreciate these guys but man, we sure loved them growing up. "Dance Dance Dance", "Dead Man's Curve", "I Get Around", "Barbara Ann" and so many more.

I was born in ‘68.
Started listening to The Beach Boys in ‘76.
Me and my pals used to put on lip synch shows for all the mothers in the hood.
The Beach Boys always had the lushest harmonies.
Please Let Me Wonder.
I’m so young.
She knows me too well. (The chorus…wow!!)
In my room.
Ballad of old Betsy (gotta be one of the wittiest lyrics ever written).
Classic bass lines. Beach Boys made some beautiful music.
I hear a ton of Doo-Wop in their music, too, which I find cool!

Was old enough to start driving to the beach in SoCal in 1967. Listening to the Beach Boys as we drove down the freeway felt like a totally carefree & easy lifestyle. Too young to be drafted, those really were some darn good times, and their music still takes me right back!

I’m a big fan. Growing up the “hits” were all over the radio (born in 73) and then after hearing pet sounds 🤯

I'm a HUGE Beach Boys fan!! The 50th Reunion concert back in 2012 was one of the best concerts I've ever been to!! They sounded amazing and it was outdoors at Red Rock Amphitheater here in Las Vegas. A night I'll always remember.

And let's don't forget Glen Campbell's contributions.
Or Carol Kaye, Hal Blaine, Leon Russel, and the rest of the Wrecking Crew. For many of The Beach Boys greatest hits, it was all Brian and these studio ringers, w/ Mike, Carl, and Al coming in later just to provide some vocal tracks. In fact, there are a lot of Beach Boys classics that not one single Beach Boy played an instrument on. (Like ALL of Pet Sounds!)

My first true music loving memories were playing Beach Boys and Beatles 45's on my Fisher Price portable suitcase record player when I was maybe 5-6 yrs old. The records themselves were hand me downs from my oldest brother. In the early to mid 80's, I used to go to their annual 4th of July concert on the Mall in Wash D.C. I got to see Dennis for the last time in 82. Reagan's Interior Secretary, James Watt, ridiculously banned them in 83. Then in 84, they returned in front of 1/2 a million people. Ringo sat in on the encores. Then in 85, there were closer to 750,000 people in attendance! Brian made his return to the stage and even Jimmy Page was a special guest for 5 tunes. I was right up front. It was crazy!!

Brian Wilson was a genius.

The earth was flat for a long time, according to some it still is.

Humans are never really ready for new ideas, and it takes a while before the resistance makes way for something new.

He got an F for Surfin Safari, reaffirming any and all feelings I've had that school sucked and why I couldn't wait to get out.

Not unlike the early Beatles in some respects. Wonderful harmonies, upbeat tunes, seemingly simple but complex arrangements. Just listening again to Good Vibrations - genius! Endearing sentiments and melodies that make you want to sing and listen to over and over again. Hanging out at the beach and the volume would go way up on all the transistor radios when their songs came on. Enduring classics.

Can't talk about these guys without mentioning Leon Theremin, and gee whiz, something else that should be a bucket list item.

It's air guitar?

Guildedagain,
The sound of an instrument like that is surely weird enough to make the Earth stand still.;)

Born in 77, but always liked the Beach Boys. I always really liked the song "wouldn't it be nice" and somehow was always able to relate to the lyrics on a personal level. when I was in my 20's, Jerry Joseph performed a cover of "wouldn't it be nice" as a sandwich in between in his own song, at a live show, and that was super cool.

in 1988 I was 11 and heavilly addicted to MTV. The Beach Boys did a song and vid for the movie "Cocktail" and totally knocked it out of the park:

First record I bought with my "own" money when I was a kid, and it's just as fresh and timeless today as it was back then. Brian Wilson is a genius.

The second record I ever bought with my own money was Beach Boys Endless Summer, the two-record compilation. It absolutely blew me away and inspired me to want to play guitar even more. People often talk about the ubiquitous impact of the Beatles, but the influence of the Beach Boys permeates so much rock and roll too.

Now I have to listen to them :C) some more!

First LP I ever owned:

I was in third grade when it came out and made my parent's lives miserable until they bought it for me. Still have it and is still (barely) playable.

Was really miffed at my 'rents when they declined to send my third-grade self to The Beach Boys concert at the Sacramento Convention Center.

There are some beautiful Brian Wilson ballads on side 2 of this album:
