Another F20/M20 Advice sought

I have a 1978 D-25 that I bought new and think is a great guitar. I want to get a smaller bodied guitar with a shorter scale to play fingerpicking stuff on (jorma, MJH stuff). I like the 000 Martins and X12 Taylors, but would like to get another Guild.

The new GAD F20s look good, and I need to try one out. How about the older F20 or M20s? Are there things to look out for specifically with these models? How do the M20s compare with the F20s? I want a 1 11/16 nut or so--the 1 5/8 on my D-25 is a little narrow for me for fingerpicking stuff. Do the older F/M 20s have a 1 5/8 nut?

How 'bout this one on EBay? Anybody know it?

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Great forum. I've lurked, but have never registered and post.

First of all, welcome here kigto!

I would probably rather have an American made M or F20 than the GADs, which I'm assuming you knew were made in China. I owned a perfect '93 F20 that now resides in Australia with SouthernGuild. It's a really sweet guitar with a huge voice for its size, but being a big guy I found it uncomfortable to play after a spell. I'm really more of a dread or JUmbo kind of guy.

AFAIK, there are no major issues with the M or F20, and if you're patient, you can find a nice American made one for well under a grand; mine was $700, and was/is perfect in every way. They have a 24.75" scale, and a 1 11/16" nut. There may be some 1 3/4" nuts out there as well. All told, a really great guitar for the money, and there's lots of love for them on this board. 8)
