My buddy has a Victoria Double deluxe, and this amp looks similar if not the same : a Fender 5E3 clone with twice the output tubes and bigger output iron.
It's louder, cleaner, and bigger sounding than a 5E3, and different rectifier tubes (5Y3, 5U4, or 5AR4) will change the power/feel/headroom level too. Cool amp.

I am pretty sure it is a kit of sorts. His builds look very nice and there is a warranty. Being a local builder is nice as well. I have a tech guy that can assemble kits for me, but his wiring is well..... messy.

I am excited to his stuff out.

Being local is a huge plus. It makes life easy if and when your amp needs some luvin'

The Car is a cool looking amp, but twice as many channels as I need and almost three times what I would spend on an amp. If I had my way most amps would have a volume and tone knob. haha

I do have a Sundown that has a gazillion knobs tho. Risen wants 1400 for this amp and that is kind of steep for my wallet.

Hi Jeff; I saw the pics ... the turret board construction ... doesn't get any better but he isn't going to warrant kits, is he? Anyway, $1,400 for a finished combo isn't out of line especially since the list price for the Carr models is ... well ... they're more.

On the topic of Deluxes...I'm having a 5E3 built by my tech as I type - it'll probably be finished some time next week, or the week after. Fairly standard dual 6V6 amp, except it's being built into a larger chassis, to fit into a 2X10 tweed Super cab I still had. (I'm partial to tens with the big guitars) Got an output transformer with 4 and 8 ohm taps for it, so I can run it with one or two speakers.

I'll report about it when I spent a little time with it.

He states there is a warranty. I talked to my regular amp tech and said he was already building some of those kits. I really like this other guys neat looking wires tho. I've already owned one poorly built weber kit (assembled by a noob) and it was a mess.

Walter, I've never played a deluxe circuit with a 2-10. I like that size speaker, but I need the low end . If I get a kit it will either be a 15 or 2-12 config.

Looking forward to that. There are some long-simmering projects on the backburner that I want to get to as soon as things calm down around here a bit. Building a Deluxe for my buddy so I can get my GA20 is on the list.

Ok; but he isn't providing a warranty for buyer/assembler screwups, is he?

Wouldn't it be a limited warranty where anybody who returns a kit-built amp that squeals, hums, motorboats, does nothing, or has burned up is subject to Risen agreeing that the fault was in the circuit board or something else that he sent in the box?

Otherwise, the kit-builder is going to pay to have Risen straighten out the amp or they get in back in the same condition Risen received it. It's hard to believe that Risen is agreeing to fix the builder's screwups ... that's walking pretty far out on the trouble-shooting ledge.

Probably comparing apples to oranges but I have a vague recollection that Heathkits came with a warranty along the lines of 'we won't let you fail'. Since the handful of kits I built always worked the first time ( ) I never had to test out what they really meant but I think their warranty was along the lines of hand-holding rather than actually repairing.

You could be right ... and congratulations on your stellar record with Heathkits  If he gets where he's selling a lot of units, might be a 'Help Desk' opening there ... the idea of shipping amps around the country while arguing about who pays has an unpleasant tone to it ... more than just a nuisance humbuzzzzzzz ........

This guy warranty's his own work. Bottom line is, I will put the amp through its paces before I pay for it. It will have to play the blues before I pay the dues... haha. I'm going tonight to play the demo amp he is selling.

The Weber amp I owned was a marshall 1974x clone and it was a mess. I traded my buddy some gear for it and he was full aware of the problems and just wanted the chassis and cab. He had a guy rewire it with a completely different circuit.

Hi Jeff; that makes sense ... nobody in their right mind ... even an amp designer/builder ... is going to expose themselves to 10-15 hours of frustrating telephone hang time trying to find a customer's wiring boo-boo.

If you get a chance, try and look at whatever wiring instructions would be available ... not suggesting you don't know your way around the bench ... but just because somebody is good at amp design doesn't mean they're good at instructional text and graphics. Good luck!

I don't know my way around the bench. That is why he is the builder... haha. I will not be wiring it. I can solder and build things. I've built pedals and little booster circuits. I would rather pay someone to do something like this right.

 :D Okay; hard to tell how much he's going to do and how much gets left over. If he's furnishing a stuffed circuit board, chassis, transformers ... all the other stuff ... sockets, fuse post, blah blah blah, he's going to have to give you something to work off of.

One of the reasons Fenders are so popular with kit builders is stuff like this: a layout for the Fender 5E7 Bandmaster. It literally shows every wire and where each one goes ... if you can follow a drawing like this, you can build a Bandmaster.

ok.... went out to the guys house and tried out two of his amps. The 5R3 brute is WOW a freakin awesome amp!!! OMG I was very pleased with it's sound. I am going to buy one. He said he uses some weber components and some others. The wiring is nice and arranged there was no hum or squeal. The 2-12 alnicos barked nicely with a sweet break up.

He also had an amp based on the JTM45..... IT was sweet and a straight up rock and roll amp. I want one of these too.. haha

I am a fan of Risen Amps. They are not kit amps.
