A lot of press lately about Muhammad Ali's birthday tomorrow and today's paper had a photo of him at his 25th in Houston in 1967. The photo fairly leaped off the page because I was there and I'm in the old AP photo! :D

Follow the arrow for a shot of a younger Killdeer. My brother's leaning in from my left (his head is just above my shoulder).

We went to the gym every day to watch him work out before his fight in Houston with Ernie Terrell. I've told this story for years and this is the first time I've seen this photo.

Ali handed out pieces of cake. I ate mine, and my brother still has his in his freezer!

Happy birthday, Champ! :D

The main comment I've received on the photo is, "you've never been that young."

Hmmm, reminds me of a great line from a great song.....

I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now.

Very cool! Especially to see that photo after all those years. 8)
As I said, I never knew it existed until I saw it in yesterday's paper. I certainly remember a couple of photographers being there....but nothing like you see today with everybody shooting with their cell phones!!

Oops, reminds me of another song....the times they are a'changing

Ironic isn't it; to be a part of history when you feel so young. I mean, I could handle someone telling me I took part in an historical event back in the 1960's. But it's quite a different thing when someone says, "This event occured in the last half of the last century and you were there?"

A great photo and a great story.
Welcome to the 21st century.
Peace

What a treasure for you and your bro' Joe. If anyone ever visits downtown Louisville, its worth ones time to visit The Muhammed Ali Center http://www.alicenter.org/Pages/default.aspx. While not too impressed with the Louisville Slugger Museum the Ali Center is well worth admission.

Really great story. When I was fairly young I used to listen to the Ali fights on the radio. It would have been something to have met him. I have always been a huge fight fan since very young. My grandfather was an undefeated heavy weight boxer out of NY and he was a blacksmith. So I got my share of training growing up. I ended up doing some semi-pro kickboxing in my day. I turned down a pro-career in boxing wanting to attend medical school. I thought my brains would be better in my head rather then on someones gloves. My hands are paying some for those fighting days. Well Ali is the man and I wish him many more. Thanks for your story.

Good to hear a report on the Center. We are going on the 28th with a group of people from the Epilepsy Foundation there in Louisville.

I've run into him a few times living in Paradise Valley, AZ. Last time I saw him was in a movie theater, I don't like to bother famous people so I've never "met" the guy but I do appreciate all the the cheritable stuff he does.
