Adjusting the action on my F40

I have a 74 F40 and the action is a bit high. I have adjusted the truss rod as far as it seems reasonable, i.e., the resistance seems to be very high and I dont want to over turn it. The neck looks straight but the action is still high up around the 12th fret. I am assuming at this point all I could do is lower the bridge saddle. Is this difficualt? Any tips, other than take it to a pro :) Or is the action on this model intended to be this way given it's a blue grass guitar.

If you love your guitar...have it evaluated by a pro.

Basically, there are two kinds of older acoustic guitars...those that have had a neck reset...and those that need it...

Sometimes a pro can stave off the inevitable for a short while.

But if you have to ask the question...you're not ready to do it yourself.

Good luck.

And welcome to the forum. :D

Adjusting the neck should not be done as a means to get a better action for the guitar.
You have at least 4 parts of the guitar that all need to be involved in setting the action.
The saddle, the nut, the frets and the trus rod.
In your case, I highly recommend that you have a qualified Guitar Tech do the set up for you.
Ask questions and see what work was done.
While the guitar is getting set up. I suggest having a bone saddle installed, if it doesn't already have one.

You may have already tightened the trus rod too much, so I suggest truning it back a bit and getting it to a Tech asap!
