I live about 4 hours from boise (kuna/meridian)... just wondering if this is a good deal. Too bad it takes 4 hours to get there just to hold it and play it, what if it turns out I hate it? anyways, as for DV4's in general, is $450 a good deal in most cases..?

Hi, unless I am mistaken, and that has happend more than once in my life, I've seen these routinely going for $400 or less on CL here in southern Ca. My two cents for what it is worth.

Mahogany flat-back; My favorite combination. And at 400 bucks, I wish this DV-4 were closer

More than anything; it's not a lacquer, high gloss finish and also its lack of "bling" kept the cost down.

I'd want some more info as a prospective buyer: year made, (serial number) before I make the four hour trip. The Westerly DV4 I stole for 200 is a wonderful guitar that I use more for fingerstyle, with the D25 now being my go-to for hard picking. The DV4 gives up nothing in terms of quality of construction, but, as has been pointed out, certainly lacks any "bling" factors. The neck seems a little thick to me now, in comparison to the D25, and I find it susceptible to changing humidity changes...the neck moves around a lot if I don't keep it stable in the case, and I suspect the crack it has on the lower bout is due to excessive dryness. A very solid dread, though, but 450 might be high.

If it's in great shape, $450 isn't ridiculous, $400 is more than fair. The DV4 is a DV25 without a gloss finish. And in some sense it's a D35 without a gloss finish. If you don't mind the lack of bling, it's a great value for the money. I'd put mine up against a lot of more expensive 'hog dreadnoughts.
