I've got an '89 D-40 (at least I'm pretty sure it's an '89--serial # is D400573--if this doesn't conform to '89 please let me know.). Seems like Guild using different bracing on the D-40 in different yrs. Anyone know if the '89 has scalloped or shaved bracing. Also haven't been able to find any info on whether the mahogany back or sides are solid or veneer. Great axe in all respects, but I'd like to know abit more about it, so any info on these fronts would be appreciated.

Hello Bunuel, WELCOME ABOARD! The man who literally "wrote the book" on Guilds will probably shed a little insight within a couple of days and there are probably others here with expertise as well! I could only vouch for my own beloved Richie Havens model. BY the way, made any good movies lately?

Hello bunuel,

Welcome! Your D-40 is indeed from 1989. It should have scalloped bracing and the back and sides are solid mahogany.

Sincerely,

Hans, thanks for the info, really appreciated. It's what I'd guessed, but nice to know for sure!

OK, I'm thick, but I didn't get the movie reference ?
No worries, it WAS a little obscure, but since the name's so unusual, I thought our new friend might have chosen it for a reason. Luis Bunuel, surrealist filmmaker and collaborator with Dali, see "Un Chien Andalou"

I remember (sort of) seeing "Un Chien Andalou" while in college and under the influence. The scene with the eye and the knife stayed with me way too long.
