I've been carrying around a '75 F40 in the chipboard case it came in since buying it last fall, and it's time to get it a lifer case.
Tried some standard dreadnought cases at a couple LMS, but no luck yet.
I know the new F40s are larger than the '70s model, so a new one of those cases ain't happening.
Anyone have any advice on cases that fit this model?

Haha, funny, I just mentioned that to another member recently when we were discussing the different outlines the F40's had over the years, and he thought the dreadnought was larger... :)

And yeah you're right the Oxnard F40 is F50 sized. (grrrrrr......... (n) )

So a late Westerly ('97) all the way through New Hartford F47 (and F40 from Tacoma and New Hartford) case should work, it's the upper/lower bout widths that have been consistent within fractions of an inch. Depth within 1/2", being an F40 (arched back) yours may be at the deeper end, and the F47's were flat-backed. But they used the same case for both flat-back and archback dreads, for example, so think it'll still work.

TKL was OEM for most of that time so if they show a "mini-jumbo" (16" lower bout) case of proper depth (5" I'd think), that should work just fine. :)

I prefer molded thermoplastic cases, and have my 1974 F-40 in a standard dread Road Runner case. I placed a pad (borrowed from a camera case) at the base which then butts up against the endpin, pushing the guitar forward a bit. The result is essentially an ideal fit with no unwanted movement or shifting of the instrument:

Thanks for the info, folks. I was looking at those TKL mini jumbos, and there's a Guild one on offer as well on Sweetwater. Then I was at my friend's taking a look at a couple guitars left there over the years ... and one of them had an old Ibanez TKL case. Traded her the old stickered chipboard case for the closet Sigma for the moment. It's a dreadnought, I think, but it's very close, and I think with just a bit of padding along the upper bout she should lay in there just fine.
