i wondered about that--howso?
The most noticeable difference between a Westerly DV6 and a Tacoma DV-6 is mahogany back and sides on the former, versus rosewood back and sides on the latter. I suspect there are internal differences, as well, but I don't know for sure.
In the 1990's Guild produced D4, DV4, D6 and DV6 at the fabled Westerly plant. These were all mahogany dreadnoughts and had the narrow, pointy Gruhn headstock(as far as I know). D4 and D6 were arched back. DV4 and DV6 were flat backs. There were an assortment of finishes - satin, high gloss, or hand rubbed; yadda, yadda, yadda. I believe that the primary differences between the _4 models and the _6 models was the trim level. That is purfling, rosette, herring bone strip up the back( or lack of) and other details. There were also some 12 string versions of the D4.
Starting in July of 2007 through about the end of 2008, Guild produced the DV-4 and the DV-6 in the Tacoma plant. The DV-4 was a mahogany dread and the DV-6 was rosewood. They both had Sitka spruce tops, flat backs and the wider seventies style headstock. These guitars are very plain - a satin finish with zero bling. No trim or finish options. Production of these guitars moved to Ensenada about the time the NH plant opened.
Feel free to jump in and correct me, if anyone has different or better information.
