PLEASE get the COMPLETE model number off the label! And ask him where he got his info about "Pumpkin". Just curious now, no insult intended to the seller. Thanks!

The new close up of the top looks more like hog to me, where the pics in the beginning of the thread looked like stained spruce to me. Year 1974 could go either way. I don't see how that color is "pumpkin", though; I've never seen a healthy pumpkin that dark!

His looks like mine. Mine says D25, "Made in U.S.A." and the serial number 98826. It's mahogany top, back and sides and arched back. At last, a photo:

N-I-I-I-C-E!!! Thanks bek!
I realized recently the color of the finish on the sides and back of my D25 is considerably darker than my D40, which is also "orange-ish". Different eras of production but confirming the use of different color stains and/or finishes on mahogany.

Most of the time it looks more reddish than that photo. More like the color in the part of the top farthest into the top-left corner. I've been told, "It's red!" I've always thought of it as kind of cherry. Anyway, I'm glad to finally post a pic, as it is one of the hog-top, arched-back rare ones.

Well there WAS a "cherry" finish...right when they started putting on the spruce tops! Maybe they just didn't call it that for those models...and I was thinking to myself that maybe they stained my '25 with "mahogany" over mohogany to make it really "wine' colored, but maybe actually put "amber" on the D40 to get the more orange effect....

I don't know about all that, but mine is definitely all-mahogany and has a red-gold tint. Hans will know!

That's a real beauty, bek!

Boy, I'm beginning to second-guess myself on this craigslist one now. The cell phone photos look like a 'hog top, but the CL photos look like my spruce-top:

A thousand thanks to all who have replied! I really do thank the stars that there are kind and helpful Guild geeks like y'all out there that'll take the time to share your encyclopedic knowledge of this stuff. :D

My budget is super-mega tight right now, but I've got the go ahead from my better half to at least go and play this thing. I'm gonna sleep on it and call the fella tomorrow to set a time up.

In the meantime, he's posted a Craigslist ad with more photos and the serial 102267 confirming that it is indeed a '74.

It looks spruce grain to me. If it is a hog that is the tightest grain ever. LOESS?!?!
I miss the Loess Hills. My brother is buried on one of those hills. My grandparents live in Treynor, IA. I lived in Papillion, NE for awhile.

Like Geoguy mine is 105XXX and is the mahogany top laminated arch back. Don't know how rare the things really are, they seem to pop up not infrequently, although certainly less common than the spruce tops. Ebay photos when I bought the thing looked even lighter than the photos bek posted, but when it arrived it was much darker, almost rosewood color, which I actually prefer.

My guess is by looking at the images that loess posted.......I can't tell  I'm tending towards spruce but would have to see the thing. The photos in my opinion just don't do it.

Harmony H-173 bought in 1960 (retired), Alvarez AC60S 2008, Eastman AC320ce 2008 "Hybrid", Guild GAD-JF30E(blonde) 2008, Guild JF55 1997, Guild D25M 1974, Martin Grand J35E 2009

All part of the service here on the Guild Forum. Besides, I finally got a Photobucket account and put on a few photos (braggin' rights, as I got one of the coolest of Guilds[IMVHO]). Also, I have the priviledge of being the original owner, so provenance is beyond question!

Yeah but Jazzerciser says he's got a D25M which is supposed to be spruce top with mahogany stain...he hasn't answered back yet as to whether his top wood really matches the sides and back.
