Yesterday I received an F30R made in 1973. It has a few issues & I'm assessing whether or not to keep it, but I was just curious about the label.

I know this has come up before, but can't recall the discussion. The label only says Made in USA. It does not list the city of origin as either Hoboken or Westerly.

These were made in Westerly, correct? And for how long was this label used?

The tone is beautiful, and the neck feels wonderful. Unfortunately the neck angle & corresponding neck relief are a bit wonky, so I'll do some setup work to see how well it dials in before making a final decision on this one.

Although I had purchased a new F30 back in the day, I've never played the fancier F30R, so this is fun!

Yes by '73 they were definitely made in Westerly but I don't remember the specifics of timimg for that label.

My '73 D-35 and '74 G-37 both have the generic Made in USA label, so the switch to the Westerly label came after that.

Got photos?

It's my understanding that labels were ordered during the transition from Hoboken to Westerly. At one point guitars were being made in both places, therefore they just said Made in U.S.A. After the move to Westerly for all production, the labels were used until they ran out and then the new labels said Westerly, R.I. Correct me if I'm wrong, but that's what I understood to be true.

I think the first label showing the Westerly, RI location appeared in 1975... it's in the "Book of Hans," but my copies are at home.

Learning to post photos is on my "to do" list after retirement in May!

Thanks to all for the info.

This will help you get a jump on that.

I will confirm, from memory because I don't have Hans' book at hand, that your instrument was made in Westerly and has the correct label for that time
