The title says it all. The label has that "spec" suffix along with the model name and I cannot find any good info on what it mean. I thought you guys might know!

Hi, HighStrung.

Welcome to LTG. As you'll see in your introductory post, Hans already asked you for pictures to determine what the spec suffix is for on your guitar. If you could give us those we might be able to answer.

Best wishes, and welcome aboard!

Hi guys, the serial # is 73367 and here are pics of the headstock front and back, and the body front and back plus the label. I can snap more too!

Maybe the "Special" is for the Grover Rotomatic tuners. I think that model (in 1973) had Japanese 6-on-a-strip tuners so the Grovers would be a nice factory upgrade.

Hello HighStrung,

The 'Special' designation is because of the Grover RotoMatic tuners, which were an upgrade over the regular Japanese strip tuners.

Whenever I owned a guitar labeled as "Spec" or "Special", it always made me feel special....😇
Great guitar btw! Bet it's a cannon!

My '73 F212XL has Guild tuners and does not have the word Spec on the label.
XL means extra large or 17" wide body. There was also a smaller non-XL.
The only other unusual thing about it of which I am aware is that it has two pick guards.

Rob, your guitar is newer than High Strung's. The "spec" suffix was not used all the time. In your case the dual PG option was not noted on the label, although we have seen it so on some others.
