This is my first post. I have two S-100 (carved) from the early 70s. What gauge strings did the early '70s S-100 get at the factory and what is the most popular choice in your opinion?

Welcome!

I don't know what they used originally, but I use .10 D'Addarios. I tried .11's with dropped tuning but the saddles didn't like it so much.

Pictures are mandatory!

I had 10-52s on mine before I sold it, but that's what I have on pretty much all my electrics, other than my X-700, which I string heavier and a Jazzmaster I occasionally string w/ flats.

I would think you'd be able to adjust them to run pretty much anything you want, other than maybe having to widen a nut slot or two if you go really heavy.

I've got d'Addario 11-49s on mine with standard tuning. They're fine.
I've seen some comments about low Es popping of the bridge roller. I've never had that trouble and maybe the 11s help there with that extra bit of tension.

Welcome 1MB. Photos would be great, almost mandatory! :D The "Class of '73" S-100s are all equipped with Ernie Ball .10-.46s.
